For me my dad was always into different cars, we had americans, italians, germans, japs so I generally have an appreciation for everything. But I always loved 300ZX's and supras when I was growing up, and I was always reading some sort of car magazine (usually import). So I started with a B15 Sentra with an SR20, then moved to an RX8, now to a Mazdaspeed 3, and my R33GTR will be here in 2 more weeks.1995 R33 GTR Vspec - Sold

Went Japanese, gained traction and handling but costs 4 times more to build up and up keep. Often, I regret leaving the V8 world as 500 hp didn't cost HUGE money to make on pump gas. I don't like the fact that making medium to big power on Skylines (for example) can't be done of pump gas.
ZR1>GTR, both pump gas.
I'm running 1.2 bar on straight pump (Mohawk 94) and make HUGE power even for a race car. It is possible.
I have been a Chevy guy for my entire life (save for the Omni) and never liked most Japanese "performance" cars, untill I found the Skyline. The more research I did the more I liked it. The only reason I have one is because it's cheap (just because some winnies like to spend the GDP of a small country on stuff doesn't mean we all have too), it handles and brakes like crazy (something new to me) and does it ever haul ass. Nothing short of a Veron will touch it on the street and I can still drive my 8 month pregnant wife around in it on a Sat. night.
That's what sold me.
Jon.Why don't you come over to MySpace and Twitter my Yahoo untill I Google all over your Facebook.
1990 GTR Drag Special T88H34D 11.24 @ 127.55mph at only 1.2bar...... officially. SOLD

I think because the first modified cars I ever saw where Hondas and that sparked my interest at a young age. However I hate to admit it but I also wasn't really into the concept of modifying cars to make them fast until after the first fast and furious as well. I also loved fast cars but I was more of a supercar kid. I just never really thought about the concept of taking a slow car and trying to make it fast. Thus I picked pretty much the slowest car around (honda civic) and tried to make it fast, after a couple of civics, integras, a few gsr swaps and type-r swaps, I finally realized hondas are gay and slow and got my s15 sr 240sx which I've since sold got my skyline.-Pat B R33 GTR-

For me Grand Torismo (I know ha ha) is what got me into Jap cars, I started off with classic british like Lotus and Triumph ... Lucas and Smith killed that love pretty quik ... gorgeous cars but they where always broken. Then the muscle cars took over, fun cars gobs of raw power, squirrely all over the place fun... ended up wrecking a few of them and myself. While recovering from muscle cars I played a lot of Grand Torismo and could not believe that you could get a Jap car with that much power, I know it was a video game but these little cars that I had never heard of kicked some serious ass... several years later I found out you can import them and they just turned 15 years old .... the rest is history

fast and furious. lol
i saw the first fnf when i was 9ish, at that time though i didn't really care about performance and the technical aspect i just liked the way the cars looked. the bright paint jobs, vinyls, neon, nos all that good stuff. im now 16 still a noob when it comes to engines and such except now i know the difference between a ricemobile and a fine japanese piece of machinery, im always reading the project cars section, the tech section looking for valuable information and searching the forums for answers to my questions. as for american cars never really been a fan other than the old shelby's, and camaro's. as for my first car i will probably look into getting a gt-r ... NOT lol don't kill me, seriously though i will be looking into an s13 or 240 to begin with then one day move on to a gts-t. rb20ftw
p.s. watching fast and furious right now lol vin diesel's rx-7 = beast

Well, I've always been a car enthusiast ever since playing NFS:II when I was 6. Then as I got more interested in cars I found that a lot of the domestics looked quite bland and boring, and for some reason Euro cars never really "did" anything for me either. But the smaller Japanese cars had a certain character to them that I gravitated to. After that, my friend introduced me to Initial D, and I was totally hooked.
For some reason FnF didn't do anything for me either, even though I was so young when it came out. I've always considered it as the thing that ruined everyone's perception of Japanese car culture.
