      • As you probably already know, rotary engine was invented in Germany by Felix Wankel in 1924 -

It's a pity Felix didn't get to see the victory at Lemans in 1991. But it's awesome that the owner of Mazda knew Felix and put the Wankel / Rotary engine into a production car.

        787B with 4 rotor 26B and 700hp in a 830kg chassis = Lemans winner in 1991 -

        • hey dudes, so ive been working at a Mazda dealer for 2 weeks now, and the between the 4 guys on my team we've had to replace SIX (6) RX8 engines in 2 weeks! so think twice about picking one up, unless you plan to sell it at 90,000 miles right before the powertrain warranty expires and you'd have to start paying the 5 grand for a new engine.
I've been brushing my teeth with jack but it's resulted in terrible amounts of tooth decay.

Driven by grandmas? I thought you had to beat a renesis like you'd beat a disobedient wife in order to make sure the engine lasts a long time...

RX8's are a bright spot for mazda these days, we own a MPV, which are now discontinued cuz of mazda's SH!TINESS and it has been nothing but problems...now when i was a kid we owned a 93 MPV for 13 years and had only minor problems with it with regular tune-ups...it was a beast...bottome line new age mazda licks balls with their sporty little wagons and shitmachines

                      • Falcon, have you seen this videoclip below.

RX7's look like alot of fun to drive when fully modified -

Also looks to be reliable, as seems to be reaching 8500rpm without problems.

Maybe when stock they have alot of problems (like most stock engines on any car do).

                        • You know, it's actually in stock form that they are the most reliable. If you do what the RX7 community calls "reliability mods" which include a new radiator, silicone hoses on the "rats nest", lower fan switch, aluminum air separation tank, removing the precat/downpipe and replacing with 3'' to name a few they are very stout cars.

It's when you go single, aftermarket ECU and try to hit over 500whp when they start to have problems. They also will have issues when you don't do the relibility mods, after 18 years these things start to get old and brittle which can lead to coolant seal failure. Another big mistake new FD owners make is put an IC and full unrestricked exhaust on the car. The stock ECU had a fuel cut at 12PSI. With a full exhaust/IC/Intake system you can creep to over 14PSI. If you do these things, it is best to at minimum swap out the stock ECU for a PFC and at least run it on the base map since it dosen't have the same fuel cut.

A 400whp RX7 (FD) is pretty easy to do provided you follow the right steps and don't cut corners.
