What a touching story, and it truly is sad that insurance conpanies will take a ton of money from you every year, and then the one time you need them most they are extremely difficult to cope with.Originally posted by Ray View PostIntact Insurance - I know some that had some bad experience, but not as bad as this guy.

One other thing, I went on Facility's website and they explain a lot about them and that they suggest you shop elsewhere before coming to them, etc.
But, what I didn't find was that apparently you MUST be insured with them for a full year? And on top of that, you must pay the full amount up front or "finance" the amount?
Anyone with Facility?? Chime in?

What worries me is that everyone seems to be having an extremely difficult time insuring their stock Skylines with a clean driving record.
My car is really nowhere near stock, and I have two "15 over's" from 2009
I'm really not excited about facility

I wouldn't go as far to say there is a conspiracy, however the CADA has been railing against RHD for years, and are a very powerful entity. They could have a lot of pull with insurance companies, and who knows what is going on behind closed doors.
At the very least, the CADA is guilty of providing false or heavily biased information to the Canadian Government about RHD cars.

What I'm saying is that there isn't an Insurance Company "conspiracy" of not insuring non north american sold vehicles just to stimulate North American automobile industry. They really don't care where your car comes from unless it has some negative effect on them when comes the time to cash out. They rely on stats (be it bogus stats on RHDs) to determine the risk involved in insuring specific vehicle makes and models; the cost to have a certain vehicle repaired (higher for imports usually); etc.Originally posted by cdnleaf View PostAbsolutely I believe they care about the health of the auto industry; it's a trillion dollar industry that fuels both economies. Flat lining auto industry is not good for insurance companies - considering all the other policies they write. Agree they are here to make money and dumping coverage on insuring RHDs as daily drivers isn't going to hurt their bottom line.
Be it a Japanese sold LHD model vs the exact same car but North American sold (Nissan, Mitsubishi, etc), it won't change a thing. What they do not like however, is when it's RHD (because of risk increase stats) and hard to get parts for repairs (when the vehicle is not normally available for purchase in North America). If the vehicle is available for purchase in North America and you decide to import it because it's cheaper, they won't care because it's all the same to them. They won't go around and try not to insure you because "you didn't buy a North American sold vehicle and didn't stimulate our economy."

Write or call your local MP, that's what they are there for. They wont be able to change much, but at least they can put some pressure on someone.Originally posted by Kunzz View Postwhat about CONSUMER FRAUD?!

The Auditor General is looking into the ridiculous rates in Ontario right now, so it's good timing to add more to the fire.

Because that would be very illegal and constitute insurance fraud.Originally posted by IMPULR33R View Postso why dont we just switch to n/a vin and replate the car as a 240/or something and skirt the 11- digit vin issue with insurance companies

bad news bears ... intact is part of belair direct and has a rhd refusal policy

btw if you modify your car to be LHD you still wont get coverage
a. because you still have 11 digit vin
b. because you customized/modified your car
so why dont we just switch to n/a vin and replate the car as a 240/or something and skirt the 11- digit vin issue with insurance companies
or would you then just be effed in the event of a claim?

called and asked to check if intact can carry me
was informed that my record is grade 1 or something so it with be high
its cause of my single vehicle spin out in, which was with certas and i was covered
( accident forgiveness) but now that they dropped me ... its not forgiven
so i ask if the broker or intact has a right hand drive refusal policy , he says he doesnt know, but he tried to say no, cause its customized, i told him no its not , its just a japanese car.
so it is still rhd,.. yes
and we continued... so i waiting to see if intact has a rhd refusal policy in place
it may be high quote but i dont want facility...

They rely on stats to decide who/what/where/at what cost they insure. That's it.Last edited by cdnleaf; 12-28-2011, 12:51 PM.
