    • ....thats why i run longer studs and spacers dude! reaaaad lol.

i won't be able to get any far away shots of the set up since its in the garage for winter, but they sit nicely... and offset is not the same for all companies eh.. a +40 from rays is not the same as +40 from Tanabe...

when test fitting, all i wanted to see was that the outter edge of the rim come within 5mm of the drop down from the fender and it does... im not a fan of having the rubber stick out past the fenders, i think that looks stupid, and make it look like the wheels are oversized for the car.

When I see nice wheels I skip the text

I concur with your statement of rubber sticking out of the fenders dude...eh.

          • Francois absolutley!~ lol, im sooo down to go to the track next summer, my buddy just bought a VW VR6 so he`s down, another friend with a modd'ed rabbit, he`s down. and marc with the GTS-T he`s down, im hopin to get enough people interested that maybe we can rent the track on an off day like tuesday or wednesday and all of us go for a really good price. thoughts? im thinking tremblant or somewhere within a few hours drive.

Well i spent the last hour or so crossing one thing off my very long list of things to do this winter.

            - rear wiper delete! ... so i did it, at the same time, i think i wont be re-installing a stereo ...i never EVER listened to it for some reason. nelsonmxmarc could testify to that! god i mean, the car came with a non-functioning JDM stereo that could only pick up AM radio.. and i kept it installed for 2 years! lol... so ya, that wasnt a hard call to make.

anyways in the spirit of not getting a new stereo.. i thought i may aswell remove those clunky alpine units... so out they came.

Then it was time to get to the wiper, i tell you its no easy task, i read through a few peoples post on removing it and saw a couple people smash the rear window glass in the process so i wanted to be super careful! took my time... y`know?

anyways its pretty easy, simply just:

            1) un-do 3 screws inside the trunk/boot that hold a black plastic cover over all the assembly
            2) unplug 2 wire connectors
            3) remove plastic cap covering wiper arm assembly on the outside
            4) undo nut holding down wiper arm
            5) bizzarely enough you have to unscrew the wiper arm..lol feels very stupid to be twirling around the wiper arm like that, but it comes off in 5 turns.
            6) hard part... now this is where i realized how the glass gets broken.. theres obviously a nut sandwiching things together to not allow water in... and that nut is SOOO seized and rusty!!

its a 22mm nut if you'rs isnt rust ridden, but my dremel made some very quick work of that whole situation... cut down the center of the nut on each side, popped it off and the whole wiper motor assembly just falls out the bottom and into the trunk. job done!?

well then i removed the spray nozzle as well, just simply tug the black hose off and use a 12mm socket to undo the nozzle from underside of the trunk... hard to get to and gave me a sore back! lol

...annnd then,,, ohh nooo she's taking a leak!

haha no, i was just draining the washer fluid system out.

ill be making a plug for the rear windows very shortly to not allow water in, but i really like the look of the wiper removed.

theres somethign special planned for the whole washer system though, have to wait and see!

            • why did you decide to remove the rear wiper?

              Comment

              • hey red, well , everytime it rained, i noticed the air/water flow would be smooth untill it hit the wiper arm, then it would divert all the way around it.

                so for 1, aerodynamic reasons,
2 the old ugly wiper is just that, old and ugly,
3 ive NEVER used it once, its so useless the minute you get up to speed the water clears off the back anyways
4 the motor assembly weighs about 15 pounds,
5 the nismo N1 race cars have no rear wiper

those were good enouugh reasons for me... thoughts? lol

                Anyways heres the finished product.

it looks as though it was just removing the wiper arm and nothing else, but i had to make it in such a way to be water proof! so, its a bolt, and a nut, that sandwich a bunch of gaskets and washers together,... its a clean result, and i no longer have the clunky motor assembly in the boot. what you guys think of the end result?

                  • I'm just wondering why. I seem to use mine quite a bit. But it usualy to wave at my gtr people behind me haha. Sometimes for rain though. Rarely though. I didn't know it weighed that much.

                    • I thought it was maybe 3 pounds of weight. The plugs you used, are those just universal plugs meant for anything?

                      • hey Derk...
first ....offset is just a #... its different from wheel manufacturer to wheel manufacturer, SSR Tanabe is not the same as Volk, .. they might be close but not the same.

second... i sincerely doubt ANY civic could run an 18x9.5 with 265/35 Potenza's...be realistic.

third... i strongly dislike when people have the rubber stick out way past the fenders... it looks stupid and is not the way its meant to be... because the tires will kick up stones and it will chip the paint. Plus.. it looks like the wheels don't fit properly. and on top of that, the car will handle like garbage.

fourth.... the front's are 9" wide +40 offset and i run a +20mm spacers, bringing it to the original fitment of +20... so my fronts are exactly where they're supposed to be, the rears are 9.5 wide.. so the offset of +41 brings them to just about 6mm from the edge of the fender even when running -1.6 camber...so max spacer i could run without needing to roll my fenders for the rears would be like +5mm.. (and im considering it...lol)

so honestly, whats your obsession with unfounded claims and my wheels buddy?! lol... (said light heartedly)

i don't know what else to say, ive explained this countless times and no one has ever counter argued with me...lol so if you CAN make a logical argument to convince me that these wheels are no good for GTR .. i will definitley like to hear it!

@ red... ya i dono man, its alywas been one of those things i wanted to do to my car... like i said, never used the thing, and noticed it creates air resistance and weighs a bit.

@ nismoStune: it definitley weighs more than 3 pounds, ill see if i can get a photo of it on the scale for everyone.

umm the plugs, are ya generic items i selected to fit and a few of the original rubber blockers and seals off the assembly itself, the break down is like this:

(from bottom up) a long M8 bolt, a washer, silicone sealant, then the rubber sealer from the assembly .. then the glass.. then the other oem sealer with more silicone, another washer, a nut to sandwich it all together... then the plstic cap thats from the oem assembly, then another nut with a plastic cap for the nut. all sealed up tight so no water can enter.

but let me know about the wheel argument... ill take some more photos if you wanna see what i mean about fitment... but i think it would be best to see them in person.

                        thanks guys!
if you really wanna see a deatiled plan i made a sketch of the whole thing before putting it together, i wouldnt mind posting it for people to see but its pretty basic. lemme know!

                        • I couldn't see how it would weight so much but then again, who knows. My Corolla's front wipers (both) with motors and all weighed in at 6 pounds. It was just a guess.

I don't know about the plug for me. I may just have my batter disconnect there, I remember seeing that a few times on SAU. Who knows.

                          +40 offset? whao!

                          • hahah another reaction to my offset, im gonna put this one to bed when i get back home in a few days...lol, honestly... the width of the rim i can't run a usual offset.. maximum i could get away would be like +33... ill take photos with my vernier calipers...

in order for me to be able to run the usual +18, 15, or even 22 i would need to run mad negative camber, like -2.5! and im not down with that, nor am i down with rolling my fenders...

i want this to become an open discussion about my wheel fitment now.. lol come on, lets bring the facts, the figures, and the evidence... i wanna see how its even possible to run an 18" rim.. 9.5" wide, with 265/35 potenza's on a +20 offset... lol

i don't want this to get all angry so don't bash, just provide logical arguments and evidence!.. I'll breakt out the math and geometery here if i have to!

I run 9" wide wheels with 275/40/17 with a +18 offset and never had any problems.

                              • thanks DJ! well to start with your running a 17" rim? mines 18... whole different ball game. and my god you squeezed a 275 on a 9"wide rim? lol.. that must look SOO mean.. got any pics man? BTW your turbo is awesome...

and about the offset... well right exactly, i run a 9" wide in the front and with a +20mm spacer.. so yea thats completely possible...

                                but a 9.5 no.
1/2 inch = about 13mm, which would back up my argument that i could probably fit a +33 fitment.. so i could squeeze a 7mm spacer on the back ( which i intend to do)

                                next?
