Alrighty well i havent really done an update in a while here. Car only made 440awhp at 18 psi.
Then, two days after having the car finally tuned, 150kms to be exact, car shuts down after wotting.
So i coast into a side road and figure i just blew another ignitor (wouldnt fire up)
Left it overnight and got to it next day after work, tried starting it and it fired up but ran like a piece.
so i swapped ignitors and it ran the exact same, and i was hearing a really loud clacking sound coming from the valve covers...
so i tow it to work, get the cams out, and lone behold....
Look at how much lower the one bucket is sitting.
Busted up a spring. possibly others but the one is really bad.


So after about 3-4 hours, this is where i was at.

Am leaving it like this until i am ready to put new parts in it (waiting on funds)
Will be getting a medium port job done, and minus valves and guides, going with ferrea for the rest of the valve train.
And while i am at it, will be going with Tomei expremes, upgrading to a couple -5's, and depending on more funds, will get an aquamist water meth kit.

Oh beauty. Wish I had lifts. When I had my silvia I used the two cranes at my shop to get **** done. Kind of a pain and dangerous to get under when it sways lol

not a mechanic though. worked on the lot for 2.5 years then sold cars this summer.

My ebay ones fit perfectly and are an exact (stainless) version of what you have. The wall thickness and welds are both excellent, they even ground down the welds on the inside to help with flow! Overall I was really impressed. They were $125 shipped to canada, no taxes/duty/brokerage. Anyone that says they "never fit right" hasn't bought any recently, or never has has.

I think this is right. I've talked to a few friends recently about the e-bay ones and they all have worked fine. I think its more so for the RB20/25 top mount. They dont support big turbos. I bought one back in the day for a 35r and the intake housing hit the valve cover with a pie shape space on the flange. :S:S

Also agree with pulling the trans and assemble and then install. I once tried to install an engine with the trans still in (like in your pic) and it was a pain. Spent about 45 min with 2 other guys trying to "line it up right" to slip it in and in the end I pulled the trans in 5 min, installed it and slipped the engine back in with another 10 min with lots less swearing.


What coilpacks are those? I first thought they were CA18 but the pack itself is red too.

I bought the 125 dollar set of manifolds off ebay. Well lone behold they didnt fit. There was no way i was getting them to fit unless i bought a 3/4 inch plate to go between the manifold and turbo. then everything else wouldnt line up.

alright so ive been lazy updating the thread. When i started putting the engine back together, i had the car running in 14 days. This is my first rebuild of an engine and the first time ive ever been through an rb26, and any motor by that means.

After i put everything together and was ready to start it up, I ran into two problems. first problem, being that fuel looked to be spewing out of the fuel lines on the fuel rail (which was odd because they werent before i took the car apart. so i make sure they are all tightened and the same thing happens. so i look closer and it ends up that the rubber hose inside the steel braided lined fuel rail hose was all cracked and leaking. so i replaced that, and also converted to other rubber fuel lines to steel braided hoses. So i get that all done up, fire it up first shot, and well youll be able to tell from this picture that my oil pump works LOLOLOLOL.

So I put more oil in it, fire it up again and get a buddy to watch where its coming from, well Turns out, it was the oil gallery plug.

The reason i didn't put it in was cause i saw holes all over the block with threads in them, but i just assumed that when i put the engine all together, if there was an empty hole, it was fine(something deleted). but it turns out, one of these holes went to the oil gallery. So i throw in the plug, and off i went.

Drove it for the weekend, then down to Lightspeed Innovations in Red Deer to be tuned with Vipec Ecu.
I Had noticed during that weekend that there seemed to be loud noises from the valve covers, sort of a clacking. well when i put together all the timing on the engine, i was paying someone 100 bucks an hour to help me (a skyline specialist), and well basically we didnt check the clearance of the cams to buckets/shims becuase he assumed that my new valves were not tipped, (but they were 2 degrees). He had figured that the sound was the fuel injectors but i was still a little suspicious about it, so when i got to red deer, Cam (owner of lightspeed) said the same thing that there were loud noises (clacking) from the valve covers so he knew right there that it was the clearance so i just left the car down there for him to custom order shims (hes got a guy locally). So here i am, today, car has the new shims in it, runs quite(no clacking) and is just awaiting the tune which should be within the next couple days. I will post up the dyno within a week.
oh and i powder coated my wheels along with some new 255/40/17 Potenza RE-11s all around.

i was going to take it monday to lightspeed innovations (believe me i was going to spend every second on it and break it in before then). ive been booked for this date for a while, but the engine shop decided to take a long time with my block. Cam (the tuner) called me today and told me to just take my time so i dont mess something up. so i will take my time and he said he would get me in for the tune when i was ready. Huge thanks to him. got the engine mounts done. it took a while but i finally managed to get them on. Currently working on the transmission mount. Hoping to finish the trans part, bolt the axle back in, and then pack it in for the day cause Its Canada Day.

Did you get the engine in? I put a jack on the back of the transmission from underneath the engine lift. jack it up to level it a bit and slide it back. I know that cm is tough sometimes... Good luck!

Have made some pretty good progress. I have to have the car running by sunday cause im getting it tuned on Monday. ****.

got the block and head back a couple weeks ago.

picked up a block yesterday. came with stock polished crank, stock rods and pistons as well.
will be ordering pistons on tuesday, then hopefully pick up the engine in a couple weeks.
