So i picked up the car last week thursday. Drove it a few kms (It did about 30kms on the dyno for the break in tune), made 300awhp at 10psi @5000rpm. Friday night I started the car up, and after 5 mins, it shut off....
Lost oil pressure, starved the head, Cylinder One is first effected. We are thinking this is the cause of the 2011 Motor blow up as well, not the clearance issue we had thought it was. We are thinking that the HKS oil pump that is in the car has a weak pressure relief valve spring. Because the pump is definitely not making any sounds, and turns freely as it is in the car. Luckily when my car shut down this time, It was only at idle, and not at 7500rpm like in 2011. The head and block, piston, are all fine. But we will most likely have to do the valves in cylinder one. I am going down to lightspeed and tearing the motor down with them so we can look together when we tear it apart, just so there are no issues with blame. Unfortunately this pump was in the car when I bought it, and figured it being HKS, it was good. I guess not. Here is a picture of the Cam cap that came off the intake cam, cylinder one.
yes thankfully it was only at idle when it starved for oil. I would have honestly lit the car on fire if I smashed that head.... its already brand new from nissan with a $2500 port job, and all Ferrea valvetrain.

Sad to hear. My engine failed when I was at lightspeed (not their fault I'm sure) but I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Couldn't find if you mentioned who's hood vent that is that you've got. I would rather vent my stock hood than deal with ill fitting carbon or fiberglass. Keep the faith, your so close....

Man you have some bad luck I feel your pain I hope you get this thing on the road again soon!
After talking with cam and seeing the numbers you put down it made me decide to go back to twins for my build this year.
Yes i hope so too. It is looking that way now!
And yes twins are amazing. You get so much more torque on twins than a single which is what I love the most. If you can, make sure you do good work to the head. I got the head ported and it cost me about $2500 to do so. That is probably the reason why I am putting down such great numbers on the -5's//////////
So All the parts are now in. The bearings took a long time to get in because they were out of stock. The Crank was turned 10 thou over, so all the bearings are an odd bunch. Head is all re assembled with the new set of exhaust valves, now we just gotta get the bottom end reassembled and get the motor back together. I am adding a few more things... 3 gauges to be exact. one being an OIL PRESSURE GAUGE so that I can confidently monitor the oil pressure this time around. along with a water temp, and boost guage. Thinking about doing a HICAS lock out as well since it frees up a lot of bull **** under the intake side of the engine bay. I just like the thought of it being clean under all that.
