    Finally Time for an Update

Okay so it has pretty much been all summer since I last truly updated this thread! I've had a very very frustrating summer but I think I'll start with the good. First off ordered a catch can and some new lugs.

Then worked to get the oil filter relocator and cooler mounted.

Then since I didn't have a front bumper I went and picked one up from the junk yard and started modding it to fit with the intercooler! Ended up having to cut quite a bit off! hopefully I can still pass inspection!

    Then painted it up!

    Threw on the exhaust.

This tip could use a polish.

Also picked up the correct PS pump from Adam with feast. Thanks Adam for finally solving this problem!

Now it was time for some long overdue garage clean up!

The parts keep piling up! Gonna have one hell of a for sale thread when this thing is finally road worthy!

Toyed with the idea of where to mount the catch can.

I didn't really like that because first of all it didn't fill the space so it looked awkward, and second the lines would have had to been ridiculously long in order to reach the catch can. I was much happier that I was able to tuck it in where the old resistor box used to sit!

Also got the strut bars and vacuum lines mounted up. The engine bay is really starting to shape up nicely. I hate to admit the green and black is actually growing on me!

Had a buddy out to help who really didn't know much about cars but was super stoked to help so he got the rims lookin tip top and I have to admit he did a hell of a job!

I think I'm getting close to the characters/image limit so I'll post this up. Next post up as soon as I can type it!

Finally Time for an Update Continued

Lets start this post off with a nice sexy pic of those rims!

Ordered the chase bays PS line kit and got all steel braided lines to sure up the PS system. Sadly I forgot to snap some pictures of it but I will next time I work on the car!

So with everything mostly installed we started getting mechanically ready to start it again this time with coolant and so on! The only thing really missing on the engine was the boost controller which isn't a problem because that just meant I wouldn't be under boost. Although just in case I pulled off an intercooler pipe. Filled all the fluids and got the ps belt on!

Decided it was finally time to take a look at the intercooler

Picked up a VI-pec plug and play from Cam at Lightspeed along with a prosport wide band. Here's the install!

Pulled out the old board! It is actually a little frustrating that Vi-pec can't just include a casing because it is pretty frustrating to remove the old board considering it is soldered in place! Anyways got the old board out!

And the new board went in!

Then I went to work getting the base tune Cam sent me loaded onto the board.

Thats all the time I have for now, I'll do one more post later today explaining the rest of the summers events and what the plan of attack is. Stay Tuned.

        Tragedy

So as you can see things were really beginning to come together! So after everything was all setup we decided to start her up and see how she was running on the tune. Thats when **** hit the fan!

Firstly: the A/F ratio was 24:1 which is ridiculously high which led me to believe that either the tune was bad or the adjustable fpr was not holding pressure. watching the pressure gauge I'm assuming its the later but I hadn't given it much thought because thats when the second thing went wrong!

Secondly: an extremely loud squeaking erupted from the alternator. This we later on found out was due to the spacer that did not get put in when the new pulley was installed. We figured this was a quick fix but we also noticed that one a guard tooth on the outside of the alternator was missing. THis apparently had fallen into the alternator so I need to rip it apart and evaluated damage to determine if I need an entirely new alternator!

Lastly: I noticed smoke rising from the downpipe. Now I had originally attributed this to a bad exhaust gasket but after letting the car sit for overnight I saw a small puddle of oil underneath the exhaust side of the engine. After tracing the leak I found it was coming from the bottom of the turbo housing. Praying that it was a loose fitting just making it look like it was coming from the turbo housing I ripped apart the intake to check the oil lines. I did not get all the way to checking the oil lines because after disassembling the intakes I saw this.

Considering I installed and oil catch can this could only mean one thing! SO! here's my:

        10 Steps to Success.

        1. drop the engine
        2. swap the turbo's for a nice new shiny set of garrett gt2860r-7s
        3. while I'm at it toss on some tomei exhaust manifolds and dump pipe
        4. paint the valve covers
        5. do some general house keeping things (replace gaskets and such)
        6. put the engine back in (this will be the 4th time we've installed/uninstalled an engine in this car)
        7. get everything road worthy for summer
        8. Setup interior, install a roll cage racing seat and harnesses, deck and subs
        9. Get everything aligned and tuned
        10. ENJOY A SUMMER OF DRIVING MY CAR

Okay so thats it for the my car's summer! Let me know what you guys think! I should be ordering parts sometime this week or next. I'll update next when stuff gets here! Stay tuned!
