  • RB26 Shortblock Build Database

    Well, similar to the MOD Database, let's do one better and share the wealth of knowledge and more importantly, FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE.

    I find it extremely difficult to believe that there are so many engines being built in Canada, yet there is almost NO information on them that people are willing to share DIRECTLY in terms of their individual experiences. This is a cause for not only confusion, but frustration by some considering the banter on the Internet in regards to BAD PARTS, BAD SHOPS etc. Let's hear it from the 'Horses Mouth' so to speak.

    I simply want to get to the bottom of most of the CRAP.

    It seems that someone ALWAYS has a friend of a friend that has killed an N1 Oil Pump - BUT NEVER THEMSELVES.

    It also seems that someone has also been told of Eagle Rods failing - but never experienced it themselves.

    Let's set the record straight and put the Internet Pollution to bed once and for all.

    THIS IS NOT FOR JDM BUILT MOTORS - JUST CANADIAN & AMERICAN...as in, NOT BUILT in Japan.

        Timing Belt:Greddy
        Cradle/Main Fasteners: Reused OEM
        Harmonic Balancer: Reused OEM (for now, plan on fitting the ATI one at some point this winter)

        Cryo-treated rods, piston rings, piston pins, bearings, crankshaft, oil pump gears, all important hardware.

        Crank Prep: Not sure of the shop (machine shop sent it out), ground 0.25mm under, new oil pump drive put on.

        Block Prep: Hot tanked, bored 0.5mm over, decked, honed as per piston insturctions, malibusst oil restrictor, ARP head studs.

        Torque Plate Used ?: no

        Special Modifications to Parts: Rings gapped slightly on the "large" side per instructions for "high boost/nitrous" applications.

        Specific Part Failures: None yet! 7 months and 23,500KM as of this post.

        Overall Shop Experience: R/T machine does awesome work!


        EDIT: Engine failed july 10, 2009 with ~40,000KM on it. OEM valve guides which weren't replaced during the rebuild cracked and some pieces dropped into the comubstion chambers, damaging the cylinder walls and quench pads on the head.

          Anyways, Guys, I just wanna say thanks for giving this idea, once again, such a WARM WELCOME......

          This will help many people including my greedy @ss little self

          ...anything to BETTER the community as a whole.

          I also feel that in the case of FAILURE - this will allow us to BETTER ADDRESS PROBLEMS and help people find out WHERE the problem may have begun......kinda like everyone's own personal 'build road map' of sorts.....

                        What's this about Eagle Rods failing ? It seems that everyone who's posted so far is using Eagle Rods ... Anybody experience anything bad with them ? (I also am looking at using Eagle Rods, hence the curiousity). Sorry if this is off topic.

                            Eagle rods are cheaper than most. Supposedly rated up 1500hp. I wanted to go with Carrillo SA rods but was suggested that eagle was fine for my goals of sub 800whp. Anything can fail. don't stop just cause someone says it. Tomei oil pumps have broken before.
