well here is the big update
I had gotten a great job as a COO with a security company. anyways... time faded away for me to work on the car and i needed it back on the road. Was stuck with one car between me and the wife and it was killing us.
a HUGE thanks to nimblestix for stepping up and helping me in the most incredible way, He offered to finish the build for me. I dont know how to thank that guy enough! he a great man with a huge heart! BFF MAN! BFF!! LOL
So i had the car towed to his place on a sunday and he got to work on it on the monday.
most of the old stuff was off the car, but the main issue that happened to be while i was doing it was that 4 exhaust manifold bolts broke off in the head.
all the following is stuff Brent aka nimblestix did, he may pop in and add to lol
Monday:
the day of extracting the bolts. he took off the manifold that was just sitting there bolted up with a couple of the bolts. he took out the AC and deleted it. As it was no longer blowing any cold air so i figured there are some more serious issues with the AC. so i told him to just get rid of it, im sure i will regret that come summer but lol oh well. the cost of power eh?
so he took out the AC, and began extracting the broken bolts. All 4 came out without any issues which is great! so he took them out and then called it a day.
Tuesday:
today was the day the mock up started. he put in the new bolts into the head and mocked up the manifold and turbo. most of the fab work had been done by me, like the downpipe, wastegate dump etc etc.
well in the process of the mock up he notice that the manifold and turbo were at such an angle at the turbo flange that they exhaust housing of the turbo was hitting the cam covers... i had known about this, and had ground down the housing a bit to make it fit some. However the angle was just to bad that he had to cut a inch pipe shape pice out of the manifold right under the turbo flange. he then bent down the turbo flange and essentially made it level with the ground. so now the turbo is about 2 inches away from the cam covers.
As a result of the modifying of the manifold the fabrication i did for the downpipe was all wrong as it was fabbed to the turbo on the angle, not leveled. So with my welder Brent cut up the downpipe and re-welded it to make it it. He then continued on the exhaust and completed it from the turbo back. all custom until the cat delete pipe.
During said modifications to the manifold Brent has a small mishap with the zip cutter injuring his finger... but the man troopered on! what a guy eh!
i stopped by that night to have a look at my baby (no not Brent) lol! he was showing me around and i noticed a couple things that needed touch ups.
Thursday:
Brent went part sourcing, got some new manifold gaskets as the ones on the car were done. Got all the parts to complete the intake and turbo feed. Today was the day he started putting it all together. He bolted up the turbo to the manifold, and then the manifold to the head... well as he was tightening the manifold to the head, SNAP there goes another bolt in the head... so he had to take off all the manifold again to extract one nut. At that point the night was called lol i believe the text i got was "your car is one unfriendly bitch" or something or other... lol
Friday:
The day it all came together!
Started off, obviously with bolting everything. Bolting up the exhaust. completing vacuum lines. running the oil lines and return. Bolted up the exhaust and turbo! and wastegate vented to the ground baby!! he had to relocate the power steering reservoir to the front near the rad as it was in the way of the turbo. in the process he changed the lines and extended them (they needed to be changed due to oldness and cracking etc etc)
Finished all the intake piping and intake for the turbo. Made sure the oil was good and all fluids were good!
everything bolted up and went together nicely (as far as im told). got a call at 400 and he told me it wasnt starting... my stomach sank... i couldnt think of a single thing as to why as the car ran fine when it was parked before the upgrade started. There was some fuel in it, but not much... anyways it turned out that the fuel was just out of reach of the pump as it was still jacked up pretty high. once the car was on the ground it started right up!
Brent heat cycled the block, let the car warm up and ran it up and down the street and such to make sure all was good.
He noticed a couple of the manifold bolts had come a bit lose and were causing a leak. So after the cool down and then he tightened them.
he texted me a told me she was all ready
i went right over after work and was GRINNING from ear to ear.
Brent and i went for a rip to the gas station and back.
She boosts solidly at 10 lbs. once the tune is done im hoping to boost to 14lbs.
man on man is she a beast now... shes quick, not as fast as Brents GTR lol
Still got some things to do like install bigger injectors and get it a good tune. but thats not till the spring. right now its taking it easy and not pushing it. last thing i need is a rod throw the side of the block.
also on order is a flex pipe so that the exhaust has some play in it, take some of the weight off the turbo and manifold. that will be going in in the next couple days.
thats it for now! stay tuned for pictures and vids!
thanks for reading!!!
Heres one pic for now!
The turbo looks small in the bigger but in reality its bigger. Its a precision turbo thats been rebuilt to be comparable to a GT32 (i think thats what my friend said) running a 50mm wastegate vented to atmosphere!
Stay tuned for more pics once Brent sends me more!!Last edited by h4X6; 02-01-2013, 02:47 AM.Currently rollin' in a 1997 Nissan 240sx こうき

*tear* loved doing this project man. Lets cruise!!!
Haha for the record though your car is obnoxious! I think I had that manifold on and off about 7 times while I was mocking and measuring, and when that final stud snapped, I snapped a little bit too!
Oh yah and there was a little bone sighting too!
Good times
Can't wait to boost this biatchLast edited by nimblestix; 02-01-2013, 12:22 PM.

good job brent! errr i mean cory lol
i understand your frustration with those exhaust manifold studs, between my 2 rb's I've had to drill about about 10 now :$ scary stuff thats forsure
and if your using one of those cheap eBay manifolds i had to cut it and bend the flange the exact same way, took like half inch out of one side.
you should defs run more boost than 14 im thinking more like 20!!Built R32 GTR, BW S362, 682awhp @ 28psi

20?! hey man you never know! it all depends on what the GTR injectors can handle... i think the most is 350HP before i exceed 80% duty cycle. but ill discuss with my tuner
20 would be insane! but it might be a stretch with a stock head gasket etc... need the car on the road. last thing i need is to have it parked due to a head gasketCurrently rollin' in a 1997 Nissan 240sx こうき

In my GTR I'm running stock 444cc injectors and pump, N1 turbos, Apexi dual intakes, turbo back exhaust (divided dumps, equal length downpipe, 3" all the way out) @18-20psi. Even at the track, beating the crap out of it I just hit 85% duty cycle. Any higher than that and no, they can't handle it for extended periods of time. Anything higher and you run the risk of an injector sticking wide open.Last edited by Voodoo_ChildR32; 02-01-2013, 07:14 PM.1989 R32 Skyline GTR SOLD!!!!

hm... dont tell me this... giving me ideas!!
i think at this point id be more worried about head gasket or a rod going out the side of my block lol if i were to do 20Currently rollin' in a 1997 Nissan 240sx こうき

I used to run my GTS @ 14psi all day long and it held up. 20psi might be a little hard on stock internals, although if you're like me I rarely do full boost pulls (only if the guy beside me is being an ass hat) I just give it a poke here and there. I hit 25psi last summer running down the highway doing about 240kph and no issues at all since, doesn't even burn a drop of oil. I think RB's can take a beating, just not all the time.1989 R32 Skyline GTR SOLD!!!!
