        my guess....

        rings are shattered
        crank bearings look like mushrooms
and pistons may be damaged in the process along with the cylinder walls.

        hope not....but....owch

How long ago was the engine rebuilt? Also how high was your compression ratio?

They never rebuilt it... I'm not sure what the comp was.

You should really watch the compression. High compression + Low boost = Perfect setup. Basically when your adding more boost to a high compression motor it's being turned into a ticking time bomb. I'm only running 12 psi, I dont think I would ever want to run 15 psi as a daily driver. Boost can make up for bad compression.

We are looking at lowering the lowering the compression... First step is a thicker head-gasket.

I am open to ideas, if anyone wants to pitch me some.

sounds like you are having a heap of bad luck on this project?
whats Steves take on this, he must be pissed or just frustrated outta his tree?

i say you swap your rb20 back in

                      jk

Go forged internals, thicker head gasket, lumpy cams, change your plenum to the stock rb26 one or the greddy one. and get a top mount. If your wallet will allow it

Ok... the rings are not damaged, but we are replacing them anyway. The cylinder walls are fine as well. I do however have two fractured pistons. We are exploring the cost options for replacements...

Forged pistons, and a thicker head gasket. Likely doing the bearings as well, with stronger rings. The Steve and his shop are being gracious thus far, and I hope I get her back for at least part of the summer.

Settled on a 1.2mm metal head gasket, forged pistons/rings set, and bearings. good start I believe... Honing out the cylinders now.

Good choice, nothing wrong with the 1.2MM headgasket. That's what the turbo motor was designed for and should be 8.5:1 compression. I wouldn't want to go lower than that because you'll lose a lot of low end torque and flow =\. I also chose a 1.2MM headgasket for my build but used a tomei metal gasket.

Knowing how my GTR build is going you'll probably be back on the road quicker than me =\

I was advised first by the shop to get a 1mm metal headgasket... it was installed when it fried. lol

can stock pistons handle 400 HP?
                                just curious?
