  • well.. another month, and I am still driving around my smashed up, rusted out, gutless civic.

all the parts are at the shop, and the engine is apparently in.. but they can't tune it without taking a significant amount of time ( couple weeks minimum)

the good news is that steve is willing to fly out lightspeed performances head tech guy to tune the car correctly.

I cleared a few thousand off my remaining balance.. leaving only a couple grand left.

I just want my car done.

    • ...and you say this was all in part due to the Emanage?
or was this something else tuned badly?

the current theory is that the e-manage couldn't handle the varriable intake timing on the series two rb25.. sending massive lean spikes at 5500rpm.

a v-manage should have been used instead, if greddy was used at all.

the pistons fractured from detonation, and the dyno graphs prove the spikes existence.

the setup should have been a stand alone from the beginning. the shop is covering the rebuild.. but doesn't want to accept the tuning fault?

reason i asked was because one of the guys at the shop told me i should use Emanage and run @ 15PSI which completely blows me away! ive seen NUMEROUS threads now which state that 12 PSI is the safe pressure for stock internals so im lost to why he told me this? im going to ask when they install the Emanage to sign a waiver that should anything fail due to the piggyback (Greddy) unit that they will pick up the tab much like what just happened to yourself Chas.

my guess....theyll laugh at me and throw my keys in my face! lol

          • 15psi is possible.. if you are sure every time you boost that the turbine has had enough time to warm up.

You can even damage the ceramics at 10psi if you cold boost them.

I am at the shop right now, before I leave on a business trip.. half my engine is in. lol

no valve covers, or piping, or rad, or basically anything else other than the transmission, and long block.. turbo attached. :hit_head:

I guess it's naive for me to expect "the engine is in, enjoy your trip and we'll start tuning it." to actually mean that tuning is the only hurdle left.

at least I can reserve hope, that upon my return the rest of the hardware will at least be installed... right?

                  Apparently not.

Steve said they were working on it "as we speak" when I called. Later when I showed up, it was still parked outside.

when I said hi to steve, he said they were installing the wiring harness, and had to wait for some more info before they continued.. so they had stopped.
... they were messing around with the harness in the middle of last week too. :-?

how does that explain the fact that my parts are still either shelved or scattered about.. and not in my car! :hit newb:

.... And he doesn't know when he'll be able to fly out lightspeeds technician either. so.. again we have no completion date. :|

he has all the money for the build now, and all that's left is the difference between the stock parts vs the upgraded parts. Every piece of hardware is there, and the bill is virtually settled. ($2000 left is about 10% of the remaining balance) so where's my f*!@ing finished car?!

this is starting to disturb my calm severely...

                    • wow, i really feel sorry for you man.
i remember seeing your car getting "completed" around a year ago when i was getting my engine rebuilt there.
there seems to be too many people waiting around for this shop to get work done, not only does it take a really long time but its usually not done right.
hopefully this car gets done sometime soon, cant wait to see it around.

Considering that the block was put together at a machine shop, and the head was inspected there too. Coupled with a qualified expert on the ViPEC system flying out to handle tuning... I'm not too worried about the engines viability. :-D

I stopped into the shop today, and there have been signs of visual progress. Some more parts are in, the valve covers, oil cooler, a couple other things.. They weren't satisfied with the first wire harness they built, so they remade it. That's not so bad.. perhaps I'll have the car ready in time to stick it into storage

                            • well, today the car fired up! Sounds good, and is looking good.

The ViPEC does a tach-sweep when you put the key in the ignition, which is pretty cool..

I'll take some pictures of the completed project soon. However we are still waiting to fly out the technician from lightspeed, so it may be a couple weeks still.

I few of my parts have some paint chipped off of them, and I'm going to have to talk with steve about what he intends to do about the damages. otherwise all seems good!
