  • Looks like a solid plan Marc, looking forward to seen it back together! Also are you going with the 256 poncams or 260? I'm really interested in how your port polish turns out. Could have some future business with gtrc up the way. I can see it now, sponsored by Gtrc members!

    • Hahah thanks man

      The Cams aren't very aggressive; 256 in/ex 8.5 lift. I would have gone with procams and a wild lift/duration had i known i was going to be rebuilding my top/bottom end. But! i'm not too worried; should hold their resale value and i can "pon" off next season for procams.. But i'm sure i'll be more than happy with their result.

      I think the poncams as well, unlike the procams duration and lift, will touch more on the midrange of the power band, whereas the others tend to slide up towards the top end resulting in the necessity of a much higher limiter thus forged internals and uprated springs (this is why you can run stock valve springs).. But 8500/9000 rpm.. We'll see.

      Anyone have input on shot peening my stock rods as opposed to going forged?

      • Man this is making me want to start my build! Being unemployed and owning a Skyline sucks. For some reason I love the look of a bare inteior of a Skyline. When ever I see it, I think "RACE". Keep up the good work man. Maybe when next season rolls around I can take a trip down there and check out the Quebec Skylines.

            Haha thanks man.
            I can see that being an issue.. These cars aren't fun unless you have the money to invest in them. Get on that!! And perhaps WE will take a drive south and see you guys! Maybe all meet up in Toronto or something for a weekend! I've got some family and friends out there anyways!

            Lol Frank. That's probably my most exciting mod. 5 hp or something, quick shifts.. unreal. lol

            • From what I understand, Poncams are like reground stock cams, but using new blanks instead of welding onto lobes, regrinding lobes to get more lift and reducing base circle to get more duration.

                Sounds self explanitory but ill send you a pm about this Franki as I would like to know more. Honestly Marc that sounds like a good range, and the exact same poncams as mine. Im sure you will have no problem "pon" ing them off next year if need be.

                  Sweet! Ya i completely forgot you went that route as well.. I almost debated painting orange too.. hmmm

                  --------------------------------------------------

                  Small update..

                  Was just messing around at work tonight with some customers things and new molds, then i tackled a few other little projects;

                  Carbon Coil pack cover.. this is just the prototype too, it came out pretty nice.. unfortunately i ran out of clearcoat so it didnt thicken up quite well.. I'll wet sand it an redo it tomorrow..

                  Adam's center vent gauge is almost done as well.. had to make a new mold for that; it should actually turn out pretty epic!

                  I had my LED bulbs come in early last week so i figured i'd tackle those as well,

                  The stickers kinda funny; came with them. Obviously i chose something that had "rb20" in it.. Had to keep it real

                  My ODO had been cheesing me off.. Seeing 130,xxx km drove me insane, and it looked terrible imo, so i got to work on that too!
                  Of course i wont divulge the steps, i think its pretty self explanatory as to WHY.. However if you must know, pm me and i'll fwd you the pics and steps..

                  BOOBS

                  3 km test drive

                  hehe..

                  Stock RB20;

                  Stock bottom end RB20; turbo, cams, valvesprings, valves;

                  Built bottom end RB20; forged rods, forged pistons, bearings, blueprinted, cams, valvesprings, valves, solidlifters, turbo..

                  Stock boost gauge, good for.. the number 7 of whatever their values are/mean

                  Figured i'd get to shaving some weight as well, considering i was messing around with the interior..
                  Decided to remove the roof liner. Not sure why, but seeing as i'll have my cage in the back and no rear seats, i guess it just fits the motif, and it weighs a fair amount!

                  This is the rear passenger holy sh*t handles plus brackets and etc.

                  The weight was actually .136 kg more, as i placed some items on the scale prior to zeroing.. but yea, get the point

                  Roof liner,

                  Next is to cut the rear speaker deck tray out and other crap... then tackle the carbon shelving for the rear and cage welding..

                  Also going to pull my pistons out soon enough and have a look at the other block.. Have it sent out for cleaning along with the head and then decide my final move.

                      Weight is evil.

                      On my last car, a v8-powered 944, I removed every non-essential (at least what I thought was non-essential) thing, including individual wires that were no longer needed. Some things only weighed a few grams, but after all was said and done, I achieved an 11.06% total weight reduction on the car, and it still had carpets (no backing or sound deadening underneath them).

                      I'm currently inventoring Siouxsie's "diet" and have already removed almost 22kg. Unfortunately, most of that is out of the rear of the car, exactly where I don't need to remove it

                      • Shed around 39kg on my car without touching sound deadening under or inside car, aircon, interior, plastic fender guards, etc. I can shed another 15kg? last time I weighed it with just unbolting, removing spare tyre. I know I can shed up to 132kg and still have a factoryish looking car. Roughly 1148kg. With removing aircon, sound deadening, etc, could get it into high 1000kg. A area to look at is factory wiring. Can remove weight there for not much $$$.

                          • Haha I know mike, but I'm really anxious to break the 1100 mark. If I can get it to like 1098, I'll be happy. Plus the interior looks bad ass! Now I can drive myself around in a wannabe track car on a daily basis lol

                            Johnny, that's awesome. Basically all I'm trying to achieve is remove any useless non functioning crap. There is a Tom of stock wiring I managed to pull and resulted in a good 5-6 kg..every bolt counts.. I've replaced a lot of steel bolts with aluminum as well, and even in places like the dash that takes like, 25 some odd bolts (cluster etc) I've removed 70% of them
                            ..
                            Almost there.. Hoping to make my cross bracing as light as possible.. I really want to see 10xx kg.. Do the math at 360 wheel.. That's more hp to weight than a gallardo! Lol

                            • lol, your clueless about the stock boost gauge

                              it indicates in # x100 milimeters of mercury
                              its the pressure created by a #mm tall column of mercury (mercury is used because its the most dense liquid at ~25°c)

                              so 700mmHg =~ 13,6psi if my memory is correct

                                Pfft come on.. AS IF I don't know that! I do this EVERYTIME I drive! Everytime i see that needle go up, i'm plugging the values into the equation like a Champion Asian math wizz.

                                Ya.. no. I'll stick to standards we have HERE lol
