  • The gasoline problem.

These cars are meant to run on octane higher than what most of us can get (which is either 91 or 94), so we're all going to have to deal and run 94 octane, correct?

What sort of problems are we looking at by resorting to this?

    Is Canadian fuel (RON+MON/2) ?

I think the California fuel is pretty bad. Its 91 (RON+MON/2)

We dont have any major issues on US pump gas...

BUT.... DO NOT use a TUNED JAPANESE ECU.

You will lose a ceramic exhaust wheel.

So you guys run 91 in your Skylines, and have no problems?

I'm not 100% sure how our fuel is, but if I remember correctly our octane rating is actually slightly higher than that in the US, eg. American 91 would be equivalent to our 92 octane, or something of that ilk.

AFAIK, Canadian fuel octane ratings are actually a little deceptive. Our 91 (r+m)/2 octane "premium" fuel is not actually 91 octane, but instead includes anti-knock agants to make it behave like a 91 octane gas. I have no idea if that is better or worse or what...

Well the 91 octane fuel in Southern California is pretty bad.

You can look around at places like Evo forums , and WRX forums and see our cars out this way make less power on pump gas than anywhere.

I have a lot of experience with different fuels and Skylines.

Keep stock boost- and a stock ECU - I really dont see you having any issues , unless you are on a road course killing it.

If you raise boost - (pull the restrictor - I am sure I will have to show every Canadian this trick to get about 1 bar of boost) then you MUST have the stock or a specifically tuned CANADIAN ECU. DO NOT TRY TO RUN A JAPANESE ECU and 1 BAR. It may last a day , a week , a month , or forever. Hard to say.

Please check your cars when they come in and look at the ECU's.

Two cars with MINES ECU's on California pump gas we have lost exhaust wheels on the turbos due to detonation.

This makes the twin turbo GT-R into a Normally aspirated GT-R. A N/A GT-R sucks....

is the only way to tune the ecu itself? cant we use a s-afc or etc. to get the levels to match with our crappy gas?
what i'm nervous about is getting the skyline over here and the restrictor is already removed

I run all of my GTRs on pump gas 91oct, boosting upto .9 bar.

You guys really should have nothing to worry about.

You guys could always spend $900 on a aquamist water injection while under boost, that will keep detonation away.

              Or even a propane shot.

Canada gets 94 Octane from Sunoco (regular pump gas)

however local pumps around race tracks can serve a higher grade of fuel (dont know what level they serve up to)

If you guys can get 93 or 94, you should have absolutely no problems with the RB26 detonating. Even if you up the boost to .9 bar.

                        oh.. whoops

ok so Ontario has 94 Octane served by Sunoco.

However most other gas retailers sell 91 as their standard highest octane rating.
