I know I'm bumping up an old thread, but I managed to get a job at Crappy Tire.$8.15 wage, which is decent but I've only worked one shift (and most of it was online training), and I'm finding it REALLY hard to stay interested in the work (blame the online training, its overbearing and is mostly corporate brainwashing). I have a short history of committing issues (including this 4 jobs in 10 months) and I'm getting crap from my mom over it. The kicker is I'm 16 and turning 17 in 2 weeks-and I've already had 5 jobs.

Simply put: Should I stay or keep my options open while I suck up the work there, dealing with customers who can get irate FAST (Some Surrey people are like that...)?

I wouldn't mind a job there. Mine's worse and much less interesting, although I make more. I used to think it was all about how much money was made, but honestly, I'd rather have a more interesting job with a lower wage.

Canadian Tire sucks... I did it for 3 weeks as a lube tech. Never again!

If your interested in cars get a job at a local shop if possible working for a small family run business is the shi t. Just come to work on time, work hard and show a interest in the work and your set for a long time in a good work environment doing what you love!

+1 for braden. i also worked at canadian tire for 3 months. worst job ever. the bosses and managers treated everybody like ****. i was workin hard and then they made up a bunch of BS reasons to fire me and a few other guys. they were seriously made up reasons. and then shortly after, almost everybody quit cuz they were sick of the way they were treated. some CT's may be good, but mine sure wasnt.

I would personally try to work at a small shop (like a lube change store, or even Budget Brake and Muffler), but most of those places require at LEAST a Novice licence, and I've only got a learners by BC standards. Not only that, I don't think anyone would hire me on, since it'd be only like 1 day a week.

Even if it's detailing, I would do it since it's still working around cool cars, ESPECIALLY if the shop dealt with performance cars as their main business.

I might try to find a job detailing this summer (or weekend work leading to summer), and if the pay is good, get enough for a GTS-t by the end of it.

i dont think ive ever had a normal 9-5 job.
23 and all my work has been in the entertainment industry, nigthclubs events etc. I think id die in a 9-5 job same boring stuff everyday. not my thing.

Pay is so low here though per hour. I ended up being happy @ $14 an hour. Massive pay cut from aust though

living here is more expensive. I wouldnt get out of bed for less then $22 an hour in adelaide (australia) and general living is much cheaper back home compared to here. My morgauge back home is the same price as rent here and the place is much MUCH bigger then anything ive been in in vancouver.
u guys have it tough here! well iguess im part of that now as well.... oh yay lol

Once you get out of the city watch the price of real estate drop. In my town (12-15,000ppl) $300k would get you a really nice house. Average is around $250k or lower. $300k would probly get you a shanty in Toronto lol.

                        I delivered papers from when I was 9 til I was 14,
then I worked the odd "assistant" job (only had 1 day of two of those lol?),
I forget how I made my money in between...

then got a job when I was 17 at a car wash behind the closest Nissan dealership (25 min from my house), making minimum wage or something for under 18s = something under $8.10/h.

6 months I got promoted to "QC", 25c raise. different colour shirt for me!

1yr review I was promoted to supervisor (days after I turned 18 ). Made 9.00, and was assigned a snazzy dress shirt and (clip-on, for safety reasons) tie.

Minimum wage went up to 8:75 or something, and my manager fought for me to get a raise because I was working a year and supervisor position for 25c more than min. Got booted up to 9.90.

2yr review I was promoted to manager, making 10.25. after 6mo, I got a 20c raise, which I currently hold a wage for at 10.45. it's posted that starting wage for a manager is 10.80/h so I don't know what's going on there lol but oh well.

we'll see what happens when minimum wage goes up again this year!

it's disgusting to work for so little after almost 3 years and 3 promotions, but I do everything from grunt duties to consulting the owner to training new staff to enforcing policies and everything in between, so I have quite a list on my resume for my age I think, which will help me later.

I think that went off topic, but thanks for letting me rant lol?

dude, you need a better job. your not making nearly enough for being a supervisor.

if you people want cheap living, come to manitoba. lots of jobs, pay is usualy lower than any other province, but the cost of living is also much cheaper. 300k will get you a super freakin nice house. its all about not living in the big city. i live half an hour out of winnipeg. the only catch is that you wont make quite as much money, and manitoba sucks.

R31Browny, what do you do? you just moved here and your already making more than me lol. and more than a lot of the members here. hell, tons of them dont even work lol.

Sounds like that job will allow for you to travel a lot of Canada. Be sure to let us know when you are in Ontario and we will get a meet or maybe even a track day together. I think this summer will bring some good GTRC meets.
