In all honesty, this is probably the worst car I could have bought at this point in my life. I'm into it for so much now that I'll likely never sell it.

I would have been better off spending $15k on my old gts-t... big ass rubber, GT30r turbo, etc. etc. or buying a miata and turbocharging it or something along those lines. Hell, I could have had an EVO for what I'm into the rex for.

The whole reason I bought a LHD car though, is because I want to do some Solo1 and Time Attack. Out west (for our TO guys) RHD cars are thrown into GT class which requires a full weld in cage. I wasn't ready for that so I bought the RX7 and am just going to throw a rear bolt in cage into it.

RX7's aren't unreliable until you start messing with them. If you leave everything stock and just to some light mods like a better radiator, exhaust and intercooler they have been proven to last a very long time. It's only when you go single, aftermarket ECU (with a shitty tuner), bad cooling, boost spiking, not enough fuel etc that things start to go wrong. I made the mistake once already on my last build, and this time I am going to do everything right even if it takes me a year.

I have to agree with falcon on this one as I have a buddy who has gone through this process before. Blew up the motor rebuilt it and tried tuning it himself. And I cant remember what he did wrong tuning it but he managed to melt the forged internals. Anyway he did another motor build and got the tuning right and hasn't had a problem since.

Well at least you admit that the car isn't the greatest! I've reach that stage too. They always say that the first step to a resolution is admitting your problem....although there really is no solution for our problems eh?

I can't wait to see it when its done. I remember seeing it almost a year back on its first build, probably the cleanest rx-7 i've seen, especially the interior.

Yes, I know... but the Miata's engine will stay stock... for now. Eventually I will turbocharge it.

Suspension, wheels, roll bar, fender flares... done (for now).

Busy evening.. did a few things.

Started with removing the oil cooler, power steering rack + pump and lines which led to removing the A/C condenser + pump/lines....


good riddance mr. PS pump. won't be seeing you anymore


steering rack... going to do a full manual conversion on this thing when I get a chance.


The engine bay looks so empty....

so tomorrow I'm going to pull the trans and the subframe. I was going to have it powdercoated but I think a few coats of some good engine enamel will do.
