Exactly...you just nullified your own point. The argument is on how people respond in similar situations...people being the operative word here.

This is precisely where the direction of the conversation is going right now, everyone is commenting on what kind of "people" the Japanese are. When the Japanese face devastation they come together and rise up, when the Americans faced devastation with Katrina they looted.
This is also an excellent comparison of the priorities of the 2 governments. Japan wants to help it's people, where as the U.S. was too busy using all of it's support trying to change the world.
