    • Thanks guys, check your pms,

Franc, I haven't seen them in a while, too busy sulking in the garage over a non functional gtr lol. I was actually booked for yesterday, but I found my right front wheel bearing was shot and didn't want to risk the drive down. I am now scheduled for Sep 16th for all day tuning, what should I be looking for? Rb32?
PM me your number and we can try to meet up

        • Well here are the results; didn't do as well as I'd hoped because of some issue with the fuel pump; not sure if its the pump itself or because I didn't hardwire it. AFRs were apparently starting to lean out past 6500 rpm even at 1.0 bar. Jimmy recommended I hardwire in a Walbro 400 instead of the Stealth 340, so thats what I'll be doing. He reckons I should be able to hit 450-500 whp on his dyno on higher boost.

Besides that, I had a coolant leak on the dyno (from the cap that I installed on the water neck nipple at the back of the intake manifold, that used to be a water return from the turbo). They also did some heat wrap. Really impressed with Vex, they are very professional and didn't complain about any of my screw ups, Jimmy stayed till midnight to get the tune done for me to drive the car back the next day.

Here is the dyno sheet itself. This is done on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. Full boost (of 0.8 bar) by 4700 I reckon.

Will probably hit the dyno again next year to get the full potential out of the car! Also have some fixes/changes in store for the winter..

          • Good to hear it's still running and not end up like most of us in parts because of dumb stuff!

Random question...... did you get to choose who tuned for you at vex or was that how it lined up?

I haven't heard much about vex, good or bad. I hear they're busy so that much be positive. Need more good shops in Alberta though.

Walbro is a good brand but for whatever reason, doesn't seem to be a good choice in the GTR world. Seems many people dislike them. I had ended up running a tomei pump and 2 bosch 044s but I didn't want to take chances with fuel issues.

What about running an Aeromotive A1000? High end and will outflow most other pumps at the same price or less.

            • I'm using a stealth 340 pump in my car around the 470whp level. I decided to keep the stock fuel pump controller setup but what I did change was the wiring to the fuel pump relay. My battery is in my trunk which made this easier, but the fuel pump relay is normally powered by an ignition switched source, I changed the power side of the relay to be powered direct from the battery, with the activation side of the relay left alone. This increased the voltage at the pump from 9.xx to 12.xx volts.

              • Frank, I think Airboy is their 4WD tuner and Jimmy does the rest, but I'm not sure on that. I was just told it was better to tune the GT-R in 2WD (since it isn't full time). HE really disliked the 340 even though a lot of people say its a good pump, since I have to hardwire the pump anyway and I'm having fuel level issues I might as well replace the pump altogether.

Mikey, thanks I didnt think of doing that but I'm going to run 10 gauge wire all round to a separate relay and trigger with the stock ECU signal wire

Here are some shots of Moby that a guy who is better than me at using a camera took.

                • Very nice John!

I wonder why they think the 2wd is better. The power will be higher on a graph since you dont have the full drivetrain loss but IMO (and based on years of searching) you want the real numbers AND tuned the way the car will be driven (not rwd) you tune it awd... I'm just an Internet jockey but when the world says it, it must be better?

                  • Well regardless every dyno graph is going to look different, its a tuning tool after all. It makes sense since its not full time awd, there hsouldnt be any slip on the dyno. And with 2wd you would have better resolution of your power figures, which would make setting ignition timing even easier.

                    • Well after a long hiatus due to soem personal issues, Project Moby will be back in full force:

                      Summer '14 list
                      - Fuel pump replacement/Hardwire - I'm sure I messed up the fuel pump install, as everytime I take a corner with 1/2 tank of gas or less, fuel supply is gone. That doesn't expalin the other fuel pump issues though. the hardwiring and new Walbro should take care of that.
                      - Possibly wire in the Haltech boost solenoid so the ECU can regulate boost.
                      - Re-tune to 18-20 psi..chase that 500 whp
                      - New shoes - Enkei RPF1s + Hankook Ventus V12 275/35ZR18s

                      Winter'14 list:

-Full gauge re-work - Install big Greddy gauge on steering column, and integrate MFD into center console

                          • I've been meaning to update about that; I have a session with Vex booked at beginning of August. I've been busy moving so now that's done I finally got around to changing fuel pumps. The Walbro 400 is in and hardwired now and I think the bracket is installed correctly now, no more fuel starvation or not starting below 1/2 tank (so far). The real culprit however, is a restrictor in the discharge hose connected to the fuel pump; since I didnt replace that hose, my 340 was limited by that restrictor which explained the leaning out at higher boost levels that Jimmy was seeing on the dyno.

I didnt take a picture of it, but here is where it is. I dont know why I didnt notice it before but I guess jokes on me courtesy of Nissan

And here is a picture from another user that shows the yellow dot indicating a restrictor is there

WARNING: DO NOT HARDWIRE YOUR PUMP LIKE THE FOLLOWING! THE EPOXY WILL LEAK!

Besides that, the pump was hardwired, we drilled out the terminals in the plug in the cover and fed 10 gauge wire directly to the pump and epoxied it tight. The relay is switch by some wire that goes to the anti theft relay in the trunk that is energized on ACC.

Oh that sucks. I've only used them for a head rebuild mechanical wise, but that was done in reasonable time. Jimmy is pretty flexible when it comes to tuning so I'm happy
