  • Well I am doing my part to contribute to R33 unreliability this summer. There is a significant oil pump gasket leak and I've tried mostly everything to stop it. Looks like the engine is coming out again this weekend. I'm not going to be wasting much time however this time around.

    Other than that have been tooling around in the car breaking it in. It sure feels like a good setup, with boost threshold at 3000 rpm. The Haltech was rather easy to setup as well but I am not going to boost the car without a proper tune.

      Ou running an n1 oil pump? Did you plug that silly slotted bolt hole? Did you use a nissan pump gasket or make one?

      • I think you are thinking of the n1 water pump which has the slotted bolt hole. Yes I used a nissan paper gasket which is why I'm surprised by this

        • Love all the detailed pictures that you have. Will help a lot of us when assembling our own motors. I was dumb and didnt take very many pictures of the removal of my engine. Was going to just use factory manual to put everything back together but why do that when there are excellent detailed pictures in a thread like this.

          Great work, keep the detailed updates coming!

              • Yep I know what you mean have so many bolts and nuts which I don't know the purpose for..

                To pick up where I left off..

                Old Nismo Sports Clutch and Flywheel out (F/S if anyone wants it)



                Rear Main Seal carrier



                Assembling the Nismo Coppermix twin





                Cory came by at this point and everything started to move in a blur

                Clutch visually aligned and installed. Also got rid of the existing water connection with two nipples at the rear of the block and replaced it with an extra front turbo oil drain (as the water/oil heat exchanger has been deleted)





                At some point the engine and tranny were mated, then while I fussed with finishing the connections on the tranny harness Cory cleaned the engine bay



                Then few minutes later bam



                Cory is proud of his achievements that day



                Tial 50mm BOV installed



                Catchcan connected



                Engine receiving vital fluids



                Here is the P/S hose fix which is already starting to leak



                After all this..yay oil leaks





                Got a UV dye kit to help trace the source(s) of the leak







                Thru the glasses





                I thought it was the cam seals and wasted a whole day changing them, which did nothing after firing up the car and taking it for a drive. So I decided to pull the engine and change the front main seal (which turned out to be one of the culprits), oil pump gasket, cam seals, and head gasket (which showed much evidence of leaking)

                • Here we are again, engine out and car lurking in background





                  This time I filled the oil pump with oil and assembly lube to aid in priming



                  Oil pan gasket surfaces being made squeaky clean





                  Added a bead of RTV on the outer lips of the cam seals and front main









                  I also got rid of the Greddy filter relocation kit partially because I couldn't get it to the position for the hoses to reach the bracket because of where the oil pressure sender was, but mostly because I had enuf of it stabbing me with stray braids and scratching my manifold. I also relocated the pressure sender to the sandwich plate to the empty location shown

                  I believed that even though the filter was much taller than stock, it would still be accessible and fit in this location.



                  My buddy with his 2JZGTE swapped SC300 came over to help get the engine back in the car





                  Reinstalling the twin clutch



                  Finished getting the engine back in the car at 1130 pm then got cracking again in the morning; here I am doing up the driveshaft bolts and ET-S connection





                  Cory had routed the gas tank vent line into the frame rail like so the previous time (since the carbon canister has been deleted)



                  Fired up the engine again and took it for a spin, mercifully no catastrophic oil leaks like last time, only a little bit stemming from the valve cover





                  Quickly changed the valve cover gasket; that appeared to fix the problem



                  Here is a shot of the oil filter sans relocation kit; yes it is very accessible and I prefer this over the previous arrangement



                  And then today finished off the 4" suction pipe and big AEM dryflow filter





                  Next hopefully is tuning by VEX! It's been an exhausting few weeks getting her running properly..

                    • John that is looking beastly! I'm sure you're gonna punch out a good 500whp vex eh? Seems like a good choice. You might see some of my stuff there if you get a tour lol.

                      When are you going down there? My wife is due this weekend so I car go far but I'm game for a beer if you have time to stop in red deer on your way down/back if I can't meet you in Calgary

                        • Fort mac is like Sodom.

                          Thankfully, due to so many different shifts, you can juggle girlfriends who work when the other is on days off (also applies to chicks with different boyfriends on different shifts).


                          It's whats the booking looking like for vex's dyne?

                              PS, Le bébé était planifié? C'est difficile de déménager à une nouvelle place, encore pire quand c'est si loin de notre famille, surtout quand il-y a un nouveaux née inclus.... As-tu des plans de marier la femme? Seulement curieux... mais Ils disent qu'un anneau peut pas boucher un trou. yuck

                                cest planifier certaain , pour le mariage ca va venir , pis je sais qun anneau ca bouche pas un trou lol , je sais que la vie est differente la bas , honnetement je men criss un peu , je sais quelle est vrm fidele , elle pourrais avoir pas mal toute les gars quelle veut ici meme au quebec , mais elle choici moi , jte diras pas que jsuis mieux quun autre , mais je fais mon possible pour la rendre heureuse sur les point quelle aime , sagie juste de connaitre lautre personne comme fault , jai u bcp de blonde dans ma vie , et jai apprit a connaitre les femmes , pis elle que jai la , cest une criss de bonne femme , a la aucune malice , cest une perle rare si jpourrais dire
