  • When. Are you expecting boost by? What's the ratings for power on it?

    • Kyle said 20 psi by 4000 rpm, but I'm expecting that level of boost around 4200-4500.

The turbo is rated at 705 hp. Its comparable to a GT35 except it flows much better.

        • Nice! Starting to look mean! The turbo seems like a good size for 500whp, sick sick sick.

I like the Z too, what's the plans for that? Only in fort mac young people have the time and cash for nice cars it seems lol, I'll miss those days I officially pulled the pin at syncrude and began my descent into poverty in Red deer this month. Mcmurray won't be there forever so I decided to leave early haha

Any plans to clean up/paint/modernize and make the gtr not look 20 years old?

It's definetely worth a look. BW is still king of the hill though.. If all goes well, first start in May, tune in June.

What you lose in money you make up for in lifestyle; I'd much rather be in central AB than in this frontier post

240Z..well for now just clean it up and enjoy it. Down the road, reinforce the chassis and throw in a SR

I've already spent way more than I meant to on this whale, I need to get some actual seat time in it next year and not tinker with it. Cosmetics will follow in 2014 starting with some nice rims

            • Quick update..got my CXRacing RB25 Top Mount Downpipe in..

You can see the difference between the standard 3" V-Band and the Precision 3 5/8" V-Band. Oddly, the Precision V-Band is smaller (but thicker)

The clamp will still kind of hold them together, which is sufficient for mocking up purposes

I had also picked up a Autobahn88 test pipe before

It actually bolts up to the downpipe, it looked so mean even the cat came to check it out

Next it went in the car. It's way too short to utilize the existing hanger which bolts up to the downpipe/cat flanges, and it comes down too far and at an angle. Still, nothing a good exhaust shop can't fix

I ran an eBay turbo kit on my sentra spec v for 2 years with no problems at all. It was also my daily driver.

                  • Haha check out my sig..
I'm not going to spend 400$ on a new Greddy or HKS downpipe when it would require modification anyway. Also, I am open to buying generic piping, couplers and cosmetic items, because the risk isn't huge if defects come about.

                    • Water Temperature Sensor in Water Outlet Neck

Just a small weekday evening activity..

Last year I had installed the water temperature sensor in a coolant hose adapter. it is functional but does not look very clean especially with the tired old hose.

The turbo does not utilize water cooling, this results in two unused water return fittings for the turbo: one on the manifold water jacket and one on the water outlet neck. Why not utilize one of these fittings as a temperature sensing point?

Here is the dirty water outlet neck. First order is to soak it in an attempt to clean it up.

Next the press fit nipple must be remvoed. I attempted to use heat and force to pull it initially, but when that didnt work as well as I expected, I simply cut it off.

I drilled out the remnants of the nipple in the casting using progressively larger drill bits.

With the nipple drilled out, the hole still needs to be cleaned up to leave a bore with an even diameter and good finish prior to tapping. The hole is much too large for 1/8" NPT, which is the only tap I had. So I opted to overbore the hole to 10.5mm ( or nearest imperial equivalent) in preparation to tap a M12x1.5 thread that would seal on the casting shoulder.

The hole can then be tapped, to cover the entire length of the hole.

The shoulder can then be spot faced. In retorspect, I should have drilled the pilot hole with the correct spot facing bit to provide a flat shoulder. Obviously more flattening will be required.

A set of copper O-rings is good for this situation.

Not the right fastener, but the O-ring looks like it will sit well on the shoulder. Obviously more machining is required, and RTV will be used to fill out the high-lows.

Then picked up a 1/8" MNPT x female M12x1.5 adapter and test fitted in the assembly. The sensor will not protrude into the flow like its supposed to, but the cavity it sits in is not a high point in the water neck or the system and I see no reason why the sensor should not read the correct coolant temperature. There may be a dent in response time to reflect temeprature changes but it should be negligible.

The thing still definetely needs a good sandblast to get it clean again!

                        • I've had the engine in my posession since December, so I figured I'd post an update.

Nice -20 weather to haul the engine inside

Here are the Nissan lifting hooks I bought..Only the long hook pictured on the top fits on the exhaust side location. I was able to fit a 2 ton clevis hook on this and the chains on the hoist.

Engine on the stand. I used Grade 10.9 bolts, M10x1.5, varying between 70-80mm in length, to bolt the engine to the stand using the bellhousing bolt holes.

The engine itself is stock, with the exception of:

                          - Wiseco forged pistons ( which ended up there by mistake!)
                          - HKS head gasket
                          - ARP head bolts
                          - Tomei 1.5mm head oil restrictor
                          - standard spec ACL bearings
                          - Nitto crank collar
                          - N1 water pump

If I had done my homework properly I would have probably asked to include ARP rod bolts too.

Here are some pics from during assembly:

The plan is to install the Tomei Poncams and oil pan baffle whilst measuring the oil pump gear diameter to scope out a possible upgrade before re-installing the timing belt.

I had a couple of things done in Calgary over the holidays:

One was to get some parts over to Top Gun Coatings for some coating and blasting. I had the power steering reservoir blasted and the turbine housing and intake manifold coated.

Also I had to add some length to the downpipe because once the new V-band flange was installed, there would not have been enough room for one of the wastegates. Shawnee Minute Muffler added a 2" length to the downpipe very quickly for me at a very good price.

I then re-assembled the turbo and bolted on the flanges and threw it on the block along with the manifold. All standard T4 fare, with a -4 AN oil feed fitting, and a -10 AN oil drain flange.

One of the nuts will be awkward to get to but a SAE stubby wrench helps.

                          More to come..

Thanks! Yes I have a little 4800W heater which does the job!

                              In the meantime..

                              Oh haiii

So tempted to run water cooling..
