  • Rims were done with a matte black duplicolor wheel paint, lugs were done with a blue engine enamel, same as my cam covers etc.

They are! But there's no purple in my tints :P Must be the colour of the photo you saw, they're pretty damn black - i think 15% or 10%..

    • A RB20 gearbox rebuild / refresh comprises of reprofiling teeth on cogs, changing bearings, seals, synchro's etc. The refresh kit should cost around $300-$400 for all the bearings, seals, but synchro's are extra (depends on how many need to be replaced). Neat thing is a refresh / rebuild raises the cost of gearbox if you were to sell it.

With RB20 gearbox, there's a company in Japan that makes gearsets with different ratio's. I posted link a while ago, but here you are -

But if you want more hp, PPG dogbox internals would be the best choice. I think Hollinger made a gearset for Gibson raceteam (GTS-R) to replace the Nismo gearset, so they might be another if PPG doesn't have any.

RB25 trans can add around 30kg to car. So if you can keep RB20 gearbox with upgraded gearset, can save some weight.

Some say you can use a upgraded SR20 gearbox with RB20 bellhousing (front half of RB20 gearbox). I know a L6 bellhousing can fit a SR gearbox with some mods, grinding of housing, etc so maybe RB20 bellhousing will fit SR20 gearbox, since it's the same type of gearbox???

Supposedly can get bearings from here, but haven't enquired -

When the sun pokes through my windows if you look right it kind of looks purple just like this picture, it bugs the hell out of me on my car.

Anyway, Im going to find r32 gtr rims or r33 gtr rims and paint them black, r33 has the more ideal fitment however. But r32's look awesome on the r32's.

          • Quadracer - wow i never noticed the tint! haha Ya the 32 gtr wheels are a nicer fit IMO.. they sit perfectly flush and i have a bunch of neg camber in the rear as well..

Skym - thanks a lot man! Appreciate the info. That site is quite interesting.. I questioned changing gear ratios but i dont know where to begin when it comes to finding an intermediate to track and daily driving. There's no way 25 or 26 internals fit, or can be machined to fit the rb20 bellhousing? Simply, my biggest concern is gear strength.. Perhaps the newer GTT's have uprated trans internals that can be fit to an rb20 housing.. Would be interesting to know, and easy to source. Not to mention considerably stronger..

Frank - thanks man! i checked it out, 12$ for 4 and free shipping, that's awesome! What plugs are you currently running?

            • used to run NGK-R coppers, can't remember the p/n, but i'll get it tonight if you want
thats what Haig put in it last year, and i swapped the same this year
then thursday night i stopped by Autoworx to pick-up the rest of my painted body pieces, asked for a set of the same plugs and got laughed at, apparently those plugs are Racing 'only' plug, it does say 'racing' on the box, but still the guys there told me my car shouldn't even have been able to start!
they said those plugs were mostly used in rally, in the mechanic would use other plugs to heat up the car then swap those in, WTF

i've been using those plugs for 2 years without any problem,
anyway, i really though i was going to change the plugs thursday night before the track day, so i bought a set of standard BKRs from autoworx, they gave me a price of 40$/6 instead of 45$ pfffffff

i'll eventually order a couple sets of copper plugs from club plug for the years to come

              • Those rims look amazing man! I might have to do that as well. Nice numbers with your dyno tune. Im glade you had fun at the track. What are your plans for head work? I am doing this over the winter as well.

                • Autoworx & prices do not go hand in hand. Nor does their validitiy in certain info, ie. plugs. I donno, they're great guys but i'll be ordering my parts elsewhere in the future unless its of dire necessity. Same with work, i've yet to bring my car anywhere for work, but it will only go there on desperation lol.

Bellis; ya the car has turned out great.. The wheels literally changed the entire look of the car, especially matched with some decent R compound tires that really have a distinct sidewall look.. Dyno numbers are okay, i mean its still the stock turbo and very minimal head work so i mean, i cant complain; i've seen much much worse. I'm truly hoping for 360 next summer, or 400 if i can really push it, but we'll see. It will be a hybrid rb25 neo, swapped chra, steel wheels, journal bearing but very close tolerance and VERY well balanced.. Hoping for 3200 rpm spool at 20psi.. BAM excited.

Head work wise; its going to be a DIY port polish, swap valve guides, really clean up the ports and hopefuly have it looking like new.. At the same time swap out valve springs and if gettin's good, do some tomei pon cams or HKS perhaps with adjustable gears.. I'm sure i'll need it to get anywhere around 350-400 wheel, as nistune is limited in timing by that point i think ..

After which i'll tackle the exhaust side. Hone the mouths on the manifold, hone the exhaust port to turbo side and maybe look into extrude honing to get a nice polish. Unlike the intake side, you dont need to worry about cavitation.. A rough entrance on intake is much safer than a smooth one, as air molecules with stick to the walls of the intake ports causing cavitation. Exhaust side, you want as clean and crisp an exit as possible, so i'll be looking to clean it up as best i can.. Same with the turbo exhaust housing. If money is good, i'll have that extrude honed to a clean finish...

Ah.. winter.. came too fast.. i'm really not ready to work on my car..

                  • Yeah I thought those were R compounds. What are the tire specs? What grit did you use for the wheels? How many coats? I think this would also look great on Bayside blue. Over the winter I want too do all the same head work. I was thinking HKS 264 cams and do a port and polish. I was thinking about getting disco potato's since they spool very quickly and would be amazing for the track, but there only good for 350hp. That's a safe reliable number but in the future I will probably want too increase power. Ill probably need Nistune as well

Since Iv had the car it's been breaking then Id fix it then it would break then keep breaking. I can't wait for winter, not because of the stupid snow and shitty salt but because I can actually make the car reliable and add some power with out having to always replace things. But the wait for the next track day will be terrible

err, the Azenis RT-615K isn't an R compound, its got a 200 thread wear rating, R-comps are below 140

                          You're right! My mistake

Reading up on R compounds, you can see a tread-wear-rating of anywhere from 40-80. That's insane...

200 has yielded no complaints thus far lol.

                          • Didn't sand the wheels; the shiny surface provides enough adherence for the paint to stick.. Gave it like 4 coats to completely cover.. But i plan to redo them this winter as i did it quickly with the tires on the day before the track day.. Held up well considering.

Tires are just 225/50-16, stock gtr sizing on stock gtr rims. They're also Falken Azenis RT615k's

Lol I know nothing about tires and tread wear. Something I'll have to research on this winter. To me they looked like R compounds. What's the lowest tread wear before R's? 140?

                              • Could be due to the size of my fenders? GTST with 225's sits flush, while a GTR will definitely have some sunken battleshipage.. Ionno why they chose +35 for a gtr..
