"I should of said I believe that... Not that god says..."

Everyone has an opinion really. To ME, it would make more sense to have a place to call my own and being able to survive on my own income before owning a sports car, that's all. Not jealous at all, I have a friend that his parents bought him a 2007 (in 2007) Mercedes SLK 55 AMG for his birth day (retails $97k), and 2 years later gave him their house (worth over $550k). His parents bought him an old Volvo at 16, a new Dakota truck when he graduated 6 years ago. In the end, I guess we're even, however I have a career and he's a tv cable guy. His parent's are loaded. My parents were strict and sent me to private school so I would become independent.

I got roasted by a highschool kid in a RSX-R last year cause my gtr is an old outdated car and he had 480whp lol. He said it was easy to afford with no bills cause his parents give him everything, except for his car payments...
I try to be jealous but things are going fine for me and at some point, he'll have to fly on his own which only gets harder with age.

well..really, your friend chose to be a cable TV man has nothing to do with his wealthiness. He chose his path like that because he doesn't care about his future, just plain stupid imo. I have a lot of friend that drives expensive cars bought from their parents and still do sucessful in life. By all mean, its their mentality and how they look at their future, not because they are power by parents.

Parental handouts really have nothing at all to do with maturity, nor does it affect the amount of respect for one's car. Jealousy is stupid,it stems from the feeling that you don't have the power to get what you want. The only person to blame for that stuff is yourself, if you want something, go get it, there's always a way.

Some people, regardless of their maturity, just plain suck balls at driving.

Saying that post secondary makes you a better person is also subjective to the person attending. Not to say that learning isn't tantamount however, but that's a fairly blanket statement. A better person to whom or what exactly; your employer? the system?or just plain personal responsibility? I'm not challenging you per se, I just think you need to elaborate since many people who don't attend post secondary aren't necessarily inconsiderate or uneducated.

really on the matter of Giving ther Kids stuff, it seems to be a cultural there Western world Culture is more about, making you become independant, and have the ability to do things without your parents/familys help. Thats the mindset in most of the familys i know (Western culture familys anyways)

Eastern are more about Family's and taking care of the offspring, They want there children to have the best life possible, so the kids live at home, till mid to late 20's not paying rent, saving so they can buy there own home etc.. Nothing wrong with each,

By western i mean north American, Europe

by Eastern I mean, Africa, Asian,

I dont see anything wrong with either.. Im Dutch, I grew up in a western culture house hold, I moved on my own at 17, i havent lived at home since.. I have never been given anything of large value, we dont give grad gifts or stuff like that.. i have worked for everything i have.. and i dont regret a second of it.. Would my life have been better if i stayed home, and didnt have to pay rent and my parents bought me a car.. It might have been easyer but better.. I dont know.. i met a lot of people, and have a lot of experience at life.. i wouldnt trade my life in a second..

Judging by the people I have met I don't believe that parent handouts reflect how mature a person is. Saving your own hard earned money is much more rewarding and it may teach you the value of a dollar but it doesn't equate to maturity.

I myself grew up without much (apart from food and a home etc. of course). My parents only payed for sports and I got the cheap used equipment unless I wanted to pay for half. The only toys my parents bought me were the odd hotwheels cars and small lego sets. I've been working since I was about 13. I do well in school and my money is now going toward university, just a bit aside for my first car/other non-necessities.

However, My friend, that I would call more mature than myself, has gotten just about everything. But he's very responsible and sees himself as lucky. He'd never take advantage of his parents and he even spends his summers doing volunteer work. His parents are buying him any car he wants but he is choosing an older model wrx wagon because it is practical, he can still go to autocross and his parents don't have to pay much. He also does very well in school and wants to become a doctor. Both he and his brother are the same way. Two of the nicest kids you'll ever meet.

I also Know another guy that I wouldn't call a friend just a guy that I know. He's 20 and still hasn't graduated highschool. He has never been given handouts from his parents but he does still live at home. He drives like an idiot and has gone through about 5 cars in the last year. He recently was fired from his job for telling off his boss, calling him an "f-ing idiot" etc.

EDIT: My friend and I are both 16, just thought that age be worth mentioning.

id like to note.... ANY car can go fast enough to kill u. A $500 shitbox car can still go over 100km/h on the freeway and yes it will kill u. Honestly id prefer to be in a high powered sports car because in reality.... the cars r built to go fast so when u r going 100km/h on the freeway (still legal) and u get into a situation, u have the brakes and suspension udner u that is built to handle these kinds of situations. id like to see a $500 shitbox out handle and out brake a GTR at 100km/h (seeing as both car are quite capable of these speeds). If your an immature **** at 19... u probably still will be at 24. comes down to maturity level not age. Im a **** at times on the road sure but I do it in places where the only person that could get hurt is myself.

i do agree with dan on one big thing..... people who get spoilt dont apprieciate what they have. When u worked ur ass off, went without things to save up for your car...ull understand how much it actually means to u. Build a car, spend the $$ and the hours on building ur own car (not just modding it) and ull REALLY appreciate what its really worth. I could easily live with my rich ass parents, have a cruisy life and pretty much anything i want, but i dont want to do that (i even say no to money they try to send me here). GRAD PRESENTS..... people get them??? wtf. I got a "well done" from my dad. lol

              And in parting

Ban low performance drives not high performance cars!!!

you make a good point there browny.

I dont know, i have a lot of different ideas about this. I mean my good friend turned 17 last month, and drives a G35 coupe. I've been 17 since march, and I got lucky with a '90 Accord w/ 115xxxkms. worked away my last 3 summers to save up for it and the insurance and so on. Im in the same boat as Wolf for the most part, or was. I find myself a good driver, people say I drive like a granny. i guess thats a compliment for someone my age? anyways, my dream as most here know is to buy a GTR. theyve fascinated me beyond explanation for about 6 years.
So ill still save, and when Im able to really start getting hours where ever it may be, i will buy one, despite what people say about it being a safety hazard or a bad choice for someone of my age. I know my limits, i feel confident with a lot of high powered cars and so on. I drive around M5s, STis and stuff like that for work, transporting them from dealer to bodyshop and back. I am quite comfortable in these cars, going no more than 5kmh over.

so, ill be coming to meets, try and familiarize myself with the cars, the owners, and what their limits are. im here a lot, trying to expose everything ill need to know. hopefully, Im planning on around 15 months, Ill be able to come to these meets in my own R32. well, thats the dream/plan anyway.
                Victory is on the horizon..

Well, I just spent an hour reading this entire thread.
Im Aaron, 18 years old, and currently thinking of a GTR as my second vehicle.

After reading all these post's, ive gathered that a GTR is not a good first car, and you must have maturity to drive it. Im not sure what I would consider myself as a driver, but we wont get in to that. I just want everyones 2 cents about pricing, budgeting and stuff like that!

As well, I have gathered that maturity is a big issue, and that we must be able to afford the life line before you jump in without a paddle. By the way, being 18, or 12, or 92 means absolutly nothing. Ok, maybe 12-15 does, or lower, but you get the idea.
I think 16-21 drivers can be jsut as mature, if not more mature than a lot drivers, that being said though, they are a lot of meat head drivers that literally should just write their will as we speak. I dunno, I would love to own a GTR by August but this thread had opened my eyes. Any input as to what I should do would be appreciated.

                  Thanks,
                  Aaron

-driving fast on public streets does not make you look cool. It makes you look like an idiot.

-Lamborghini's (NOT LAMBO'S!!!!) aren't the coolest most amazing cars ever built.

As for driving. I have much experience In a 99 corolla on a 5km gravel road that my parents let me drive on (private property owned by my aunt so I'm only risking my own health and safety.) I know I'm still learning and I'm aware I don't know everything. I am open to learning more.

at least this stereotype fades with age.
unlike the other car-related stereotype I have to deal with..... being chinese
Holy crap... Were we separated at birth by any chance?

I enjoyed reading this thread, reminds me of how some guys I graduated with see me in my gts-t when they are driving their parents vans/corollas and they rev at me etc, then floor it when the light goes green confused as to why I am behind them...LOL.
People that drive like asses clearly don't care enough about their cars.
