    CLASSIC!!

I LOL'ed pretty loud when I read that.

The plan is to make it look like there is NOTHING at all special about the car or what it can do. Just a punk kid with a baby seat in the back on lowered stance with Old accord rims. I wanted to go lower but the front coilovers are not getting any lower than they are. I had to raise the back end up about 3/4" to get it to level out.

But, back on topic. I am not sure where your rights lie. If you find you are getting harassed a lot, the best you can do is log it, video it with a small cheap camera or your cell phone. And when you start recording notify the officer you will record the whole thing. He is anyway, so you may as well too. When you notify him that he will be recorded it may be a good time to provide your harasment history to him and announce that as the reason you are recording it. Then proceed to ask him what the problem is.

The only issue with going this route is that IF he does give you a ticket you want to have the encounter as FORGETABLE as possible. That way when you get to court to fight it he wont remember you, your car or why he even stopped you. If thats the case he will be more likely to drop the case or go for reduced fine. But if you waive a camera in his face and record everything and make it into a big deal, he will surely remember you and take it personally. So he will work much harder to make your conviction stick.

Until you have been pulled over VERY frequently thoug I would take the forgetable route. As it is, I have been followed a few times. Jason saw the worst of them. But have yet to be pulled over. If traffic was not so thick on the way to DTP I bet I would have been pulled over, but he could not get in behind me. And by the time he was I had turned in to the next parking lot, as he drove right by.

I get followed all the time, they stick to me like glue while I drive about 5km under the speed limit (my speedo is out 10% due to tire size) and everyone else passes us. In fact it even happened this morning with one marked car and a ghost car tag teaming me. I thought for sure I was going to get pulled over as they thought I hadn't seen the ghost car and he tucked in behind me while the marked one pulled in front of me and proceeded to accelerate away from me until he realised I didn't speed up with him.

As long as you drive around with the windows unrolled and crank "ridin' durty". They wouldnt dream of pulling you over then!

I don't know what they're getting paid back east, but cops make damn good money out here. They basiclly start at about $65,000 after training and it goes up substatially after that with promotions and seniority........

Maybe we should make a harassment thread for each province and make a public documentation in case we want to bring it up with management at the local RCMP/Police force?

The thread would have to include a description of what you drive, any mods, if you did anything to be pulled over, why the officer is saying he pulled you over etc...

I understand some drivers deserve to be harassed and pulled over and the police are trying to keep the streets safe, but unfortunately a lot of responsible drivers get harassed for no reason.

The problem is that driving a Skyline doesn't mean you have money, you never see the government picking on expensive European imports who smash up their cars or race.....here in Vancouver I can't count the number of Porsche's involved in street racing, killing pedestrians etc...

Actually a Boxster was involved in a fatal street racing accident just a few days ago here in Vancouver (although the other car was a White Nissan and that's all I know from the news).

It was a stock 350Z which I have seen a lot of in fatal street racing accidents, the whole roof popped right of this one in the crash, try looking on wrecked exotics, they don't really look like they hold up well, and they are one of the worst models on the vehicle fatality ratings too.

                  Hmm nice info rockcrete

How do you feel the R32's (after late 91 with the side impact beams) hold up in crashes? I haven't been able to find crash test data from anywhere yet.

I'm not sure on the body integrity, I would expect it to perform similarly to a 300ZX, the key to surviving though is not to get hit in the door by a runaway tree/telephone pole as that is what seems to cause most fatalities. The biggest safety improvement you can make to your car is yourself, and the second biggest improvement you can make is tires. It is interesting that the 350Z is ranked within 2 or 3 cars as worst and the Infiniti G35 is within 2 or 3 cars of being best. These cars are both built on the same chassis. The biggest difference would be driver demographics, and possibly tires. The G35 has Michelin Pilot Sports on it which I have on my car and rate them very highly. I'm not sure what the 350Z has on it, but I believe they are different.

Good point rockcrete. I remember the street racing days in Richmond where rich kids with like $100K BMW's & Mercedes crashed into poles and still died

It's definitely the worst thing to hit but then again I don't see how that can happen unless you're being stupid and racing!

I liked how the news mentioned the driver of that 350Z is "in his early twenties and Asian"....talk about stereotypical

Well I read it on the papers today, it appears the driver lost control and hit the curb at 100km/hr that ultimately led to the pole on Granville. One thing fur sure, the driver was alive but his passenger was less fortunate. I think they say alcohol may have played a key factor. Kind of baffles the mind, no matter how many horror stories we hear about fatalities involving street racing, people still do it even though they know its dangerous and illegal. Must be the spurge of the moment type of thing.

                          cops!

Well i have had my fair share of run ins with the po po in the GTA and Peel Region. My advice would be just be mindful of the rules, don't speed, always signal, as someone said before cruise around in 5th if possible. Try to not draw any more unecessary attention to yourself. And in the event you do get pulled over, if you have nothing to hide then comply with them. Take a badge number and log the incident, if required and if it gets to the point where its harassment then you have documentation of it.

I've been pulled over 10 times since i put my car on the road in Feb, thank god no tickets, just routine "random" checks. Mostly younger cops just wanting to check out the car. Speak respectfully and they will treat you right back. Leave the attitude at home when dealing with them, remember give them NO reason to gripe. Act like the enthusiast you are, sometimes they try to catch you in past racing by asking "is it fast". Only refer to spirited driving on the race track.

As a Skyline owner, your are a part of this community and we all need to be on the same page. We have a bad rep as is, lets not make it any worse. Keep it mature and respectful and it will pass.

I live in a small town (15,000 people maybe) and I have had my GTR since the end of May and have not yet been pulled over. I was driving around with 10 day permits for the better part of a month and still no heat. I don't drive like a maniac and my exhaust is quite, and i'm sure that helps. The cops are pretty chillin' around here so I don't worry. Been driving for about 2 yrs and never been pulled over for anything. I'm sure living in a big city doesn't help most of you guys because obviously there is going to be more instances of other people street racing ect there than in small towns.

on the topic. if a officer pulls you over by law he has to have a special certificate to ask you to pop your hood or ask you to do anything to your car. i cant remember what it was called, some Certified inspection certificate for modified vehicles. Without that certificate he cant make you do anything by law he has to show it to you. i was pulled over many times in my 240 and they asked me to do whatever pop hood etc. and i asked them nicley if he was qualified to inspect my car and he looked at me all weird and said what do you mean im and officer and im asking you to do this , all i said with all do respect by law you have to provide me with your certificate if not somone who has one has to do it. ive done nothing wrong. so he did call another officer and he showed it to me. its your right to ask. and if its stock or somewhat modded they wont really do anything.. most police officers with the certificate dont know squat about skylines. not saying all but most. just say like most people do all ive done is dress my motor to make it look nicer.

and durham cops have never hasseled me its awsome.. Props to them

but with my 240 ive had my licence suspended 6 times and over 7 to 8 gs in fines and ive only had 1 speeding ticket in my life and was 20 over.. unpaid fines damn things kill you when you never get the notice or lawyer tells you its all paid for.. ughhh.. funny thing is tho my insurance is only 79 dls for my skyline..

just respect the cop if he gives you the same respect in return and not many do.
