In theory you would be right. Of course if I were to replace my muffler with a generic brand (performance or otherwise) instead of the stock Nissan one there would be nothing illegal.

To clarify... Modifying stock is illegal. Replacing stock parts with aftermarket parts could be legal or illegal depending on the part. For example a part like a bov would probably still be legal if it was a recirc valve, but an atmospheric valve would be a modification to the stock system...
-When I removed the recirc pipe from my stock bov to imitate the sound it became illegal...

Just as a personal disclaimer, I am not a traffic cop or a traffic lawyer. I don't know all the specific legalities about the different parts...

I understand where the police come from, dealing with mouthy kids and adults alike, from all different backgrounds, understandably it is difficult to not become jaded. With that said, carrying out the law in a neo- leninist power tripper manner(don't disagree, especially when attempting to apply logic) doesn't sit particularly well with me.

              I agree!
In Calgary, the city police seems so shortstaffed they have bumber stickers on their cruisers that says Now Hiring. I assume they aren't as selective as they should be when it comes to recruiting! I like to think this explains the behavior of an officer I had to deal with while I was making deliveries downtown Calgary. I hope no one here have to deal with Officer Posnikoff and his british collegue! That guy was a real pr*ck! Insulting me swearing, and threatning me with tickets, he wanted to get my delivery truck towed and my licence confiscated for evidence. I still wake up in the middle of the night just to hate that bastard! I made a complain, got no applogies, still had to pay the ticket ($115 for having a P.O box address on my licence) my offence originally was that I had iligally parked in an alley to make my 2 minute delivery. I also got extremely rude unprofessoinal comments from their office when I was trying to follow up on the case.

The last thing on earth those cops needs is more power to pull you over because you car is RHD or have a big exhaust tip. To me it's retarded!
From this experience I found the cops only serve their best interest and don't give a crap about justice and the safety of civilians. I know because I tried!
I wanted to get a recording of the event, assuming all police cars have camera recorders in them, but the police told me flatly that it would serve their best interest to hand me the information I need to build my case.

Sorry for the rant, but those cop stories makes me sick and I hate their phony excuses that they are pulling Skyline owners to prevent street racing and death. The truth is, they don't even care about safety and life, they are just enjoying their power trips! And that is the sad truth!

I think Sask cops are just lazy. I haven't had any trouble and its been almost a month. And tonight. Me and a friend were driving around Regina and I rolled up beside a cop on Albert St. heading south. He rolled down his window and said
                "Nice Car! British?"
                to which I responded "Japanese"
                "Oh. Its Nice."
And he carried on his marry way. My friend and I had a good chuckle

                  1. There not pulling you over for being RHD...
                  2. If you hate the enlarged exhaust tip regulation (just an example) complain to the people who make the legislation, don't complain about the people who are paid to enforce it... That's right, it's their job to enforce the rules. If they don't enforce the rules they actually can get in trouble... (That said, they should be using their discretion when issueing tickets...)
                  3. Not all police vehilce's in Canada have cameras in them. From my limited experience very few of them do. (This only relates to alberta agencies...)
                  4. If you want a copy of all of their evidence you can apply for it and the crown will give it to you before your court case. It's called disclosure... Since you're not a lawyer you have to request it through the crown prosecutors office, not the local police station...

Presuming they are only serving their best interest, what are they gaining by giving you a ticket?

-Your right, doing their job by enforcing regulations that they are paid, and expected, to enforce is a completely unrealistic expecation for the way the police should act...

Keep your cars legal, obey the laws and you might be suprised how rarely you are pulled over/ticketed.:-D If you feel you have been wrongly accused then challenge the ticket in court. You will rarely get a ticketed cancelled by the police. I mean VERY rarely. Fight the ticket in court and you might get lucky...

^^^ this man speaks the truth.
But here in toronto it seems like the police are out there on every corner if you dare speed even just a little bit they come after you. ( I dont speed anymore after my first ticket and decided wasnt worth it) Im sure cops have the same sentiments. Cops in my area arent too bad with RHD cars. Like when I had a small meet with 3 or 4 RHD cars in my area the security gaurd came and complained at us and such, and then the police came and stayed for the meet I haha'd or yesterday when we saw two police officers arresting a drunk driver I walked into the grocery store and baught them some bottled water it must get hot lol

All I'm saying is that 95% of the cops out there don't have the mentality and the right social skills to be a in the police! Most of the cops I met are just a bunch of loonetics with power and guns.
Like when I had to deal with officer in Calgary, what gave him the right to insult me, repeatedly swearing, threatening me with more tickets if I dared to say something and making dicriminatory comment about my french canadian background?
I don't care what kind traffic violation one do, this behavior from a police officer should be worthy of getting him fired!

About going to court, I tried to get the court date changed to my convenience, but again the system does nothing to help and accomodate people. The court house is located right in the middle of downtown, there is no parking, you are not allowed to call, fax or email to make the changes, their business hours make it so that you need to take a day off to go there and get it done. So for me getting the court date changed would cost more than the ticket is, again they make everything work for their conveniences and to deter people from getting justice.

I said no and he said ok have a good one buddy. Man I love having decent cops around. I feel for you guys who have to deal with the bad ones.

-Well... your comment about 95% of cops being "loonetics with power and guns" is a personal opinion that, although I may disagree, I won't try to change. :-D
-Secondly. From the information you have provided I have to agree that the cop was obviously stepping outside of the "professional" line. Yes, he should be disciplined for his complete lack of professionalism. Should he lose his job? Once again this is just a personal opinion, but I don't feel having a bad day is enough grounds to lose his job. Just because you speed once doesn't mean they take away your licence, right?

-I have no idea how you tried to get the date changed, but you have to have a good reason. Simply saying "I want it changed to this day" will not be good enough. Also, if you are located in Alberta, if you would have gone into the court house before they mailed you the subpeona in the mail you would have been able to pick your own court date.
-Locating the court house downtown makes it central to everything. I am willing to make a small bet that it is near a police station and a detention facility...
-Parking is terrible in every downtown, hardly the "justice system's" fault.
-You have to go in person so the court knows that you know when your court date is. This comes up fairly often in court. The judge/justice asks "did he/she set the court date in person?" If he/she has then the court presumes that they knew when their trial date was, since they were the ones who picked it. It you were allowed to do that via phone/fax/email it would be much harder, if not impossible, to prove that you knew when to come to court.
-Its called business hours for a reason. Going to court is no different then going to the dentist, it has to be done during business hours...
-Yes your right, it may cost more to fight the ticket instead of paying it. I can guarantee you that it costs more to prosecute the ticket compared to what they make off the fine payment...

If you think about it, the majority of the interactions between skyline owners and the police are probably similar to this one. Most cars are legal and most people aren't racing, and THAT is the point we should be trying to get across to the police. We just want to be treated like everybody else...:drive:
