          Not if you dont intend to return. But if the law passes for good, you wont be able to bring the car back into the province.

            I'm not planning on returning. Bring the car back into what province? Quebec or British Columbia?

              • Looks like we lost this one. the 26th was the decisive date, and it looks like it's still on.

                OFFICIAL GAZETTE OF QUEBEC, October 26, 2009, 141st year, No. 42A Part 2

                Order No. 2009-15 of the Minister

                Transport dated October 22, 2009

                Highway Safety Code
                (LRQ, c. C-24.2) (RSQ, c. C-24.2)

                REGARDING access to public roads of vehicles equipped with a right hand drive configuration.

                THE MINISTER OF TRANSPORT

                IN VIEW of the first paragraph of section 633.1 of the Highway Safety Code (RSQ, c. C-24.2), after which the Minister of Transport may, by order, after consultation with the SAAQ restrict or prohibit, for a maximum of 180 days, access to public roads to any model or any class of vehicle that poses a risk for the safety of persons or property;

                IN VIEW of the first paragraph of this article which provides the right to any person to submit comments to the designated individual in the order within 90 days of publication in the Official Gazette of Québec;

                IN VIEW of the first paragraph of this section whereby the Minister may, by order, on the expiration of 180 days, make the restriction or prohibition permanent;

                IN VIEW of the first paragraph of this section whereby a restriction or prohibition under this paragraph comes into force on the date of publication of the order in the Official Gazette of Québec;

                IN VIEW of the fourth paragraph of this article, that requires that the publication requirement laid down in Article 8 of the Act on regulations (RSQ, c. R-18.1) does not apply to an order made under this section;

                WHEREAS it appears, after consulting the SAAQ, that it is appropriate to prohibit or restrict, for a duration of 180 days, access to public roads to certain vehicles equipped with a right hand drive configuration, because they constitute a risk to safety of persons or property;

                WHEREAS it is expedient to prohibit or restrict for a period of 180 days, access to public roads to vehicle equipped with a right hand drive configuration for the reasons given by the SAAQ;

                ADOPTED AS FOLLOWS:

                1. Access to public roads is closed to vehicles equipped with a right hand drive configuration, except:

                4° trucks, snow blowers and vehicles used for the transport of equipment as defined in the Regulation on the road vehicle registration issued by Decree 1420-91 of October 16, 1991;

                5° vehicles required to make repeated stops along the road through a work aimed for public service;

                6° tool-vehicles;

                7° road vehicle belonging to a driving school or institution that holds a permit to teach heavy truck driving issued under section 10 of the Act on private education (RSQ, c. E-9.1).

                2. Light vehicles registered before April 29, 2009, used on public roads should:

                1° be registered as passenger vehicles with restricted access;

                2° bear a registration plate bearing the prefix "C" under Article 124 of the Regulations on registration of road vehicles, enacted by Decree No. 1420-91 of October 16, 1991.

                For the purposes of this Order, the term "light vehicle” means a road vehicle equipped with a right hand drive configuration other than a two-wheeled vehicle, which satisfies the following requirements at its sale to the first user:

                1° a length of 3.4 meters or less;

                2° a width of 1.48 meter or less;

                3° a height of 2.0 meters or less;

                4. Road vehicles registered before 29 April 2009, through a temporary registration certificate or removable plate, can not invoke the exception in Paragraph 1 of Article 1.

                5. The owner of a light vehicle that contravenes Article 2 commits an offense and is liable to a fine of $ 300 to $ 360.

                6. Anyone who contravenes Article 3 commits an offense and is liable to a fine of $ 300 to $ 360.

                7. Any interested party may submit comments on this Order before January 24, 2010 to, Mr. Mark Baril, SAAQ 333, boulevard Jean-Lesage, C-4-21, CP 19600, Québec (Québec) G1K 8J6, email Mark.Baril@saaq.gouv.qc.ca.

                8. This Order comes into force October 26, 2009 with the exception of Articles 2, 3, 5 and 6 which will become effective December 27, 2009. It was repealed on April 24, 2010.

                The Minister of Transport,
                JULIE BOULET
                52599
                It's still a bit fuzzy to my liking though. Like why the hell are they still talking about the 180 days? This is supposed to be the permanent one. I'm so confused.

                          That's some pretty nice reporting right there.

                            It's like saying that I have bypassed my way past laws, and gone through a loophole, to get my morning coffee at Tim Hortons in the morning.

                            • im sorry to say but i have a feeling this law is going to soon be canada wide.
                              from when i first insured my RHD vehicle to know alot of stuff has been changing, i could get full coverage and extensions on inspection but now no inspection and no full coverage not even natural disasters... not to mention the pain of trying to get one insured nowadays.
