just picked up a 94 gtr, looking for insurance and have called 2 places
ny insurance from the right drive site and wawanesa, both insurance companies are saying that they want an appraisal done to the vehicle. what im worried about is the appraiser saying that i have after market exhaust and then it would be written up as modified thus they will not even begin to provide coverage.
so what do i do? how did you guys get around this?

unless you get an appraiser that sorta knows the car they might not notice. To us it's obvious and it should be to them too. I had an appraisal done and the guy was more a muscle, classic car kinda guy. I basically told him what it was worth and thats what he wrote it as. Just ask them up front, you've got nothing to loose.Tџяϊsмø

Chiming in
Hey everyone,
I just got my new car insured today. I bought the car a day ago, so I was able to get insurance in one day, but it took hours of phone calls.
It's a '91 GTR
The only organization that would accept to insure me is Facility Association. You may have heard about them in other posts here. They can be found here: www _dot_ facilityassociation _dot_ com (sorry forum rules:-P )
By calling dozens of brokers and some companies directly I found a broker who finally told me the truth: You can't get it insured except by Facility. What Facility is is a non-profit organization funded by the government to give insurance to anyone who can't get it otherwise (think discrimination because of our RHD cars, or a paraplegic drivers who cannot be insured through normal means.)
The rate was expensive, but not terrible. I am going to pay $160/month ($2000/yr) for insuring this car with full coverage. I am 25+yrs and have a clean record. It also comes with some hassle: mandatory Appraisal needed on any car not listed in the Black Book, and a Letter of Experience from former insurance companies.
Find a broker in your area that deals with Facility, it might be your last hope.

does anybody know who will insure a car that is modded as a daily driver?? I got a decent quote from The Personal, but they want the car to be stock....and they want pictures from a detailed appraisal as proof
(i'm pretty sure the appraiser will notice an hks air filter, and hks exhaust system)

it's called "social engineering"
I got my car appraised and it has larger fmic, full 3.5" veilside exhaust w/ cat delete, tomei suspension. I made sure to highlight the appraiser to notice the upgraded oil pump, new ABS system, and all the mods that are good for the life of the car, but do not increase performance.
The appraisal says "stock".
