  • The south! Florida?
Sounds good, text me when you get in.

Lol i'll take it, i mean, i'll have a spare block to mess with since the one in my car needs a bore no matter what due to the scoring.
We can build that up over the next summer/winter for next season. My only concern with the 24 is wall thickness into the water galleries. The cylinders will need nikasil plating or something similar to keep from cracking at high temps, otherwise i dont think it'll last.

RB23 is more than do-able, and i'd be down to do that now. Instead of 82mm pistons, i can run 81mm 4AGZE pistons. My only issue is i can't for the life of me find these pistons ANYWHERE. I've been searching ever since i posted the info for this build, but have yet to have any luck finding a supplier.

I'm down to do that this summer though! It gives me time to finish my interior build and get that out of the way for now, and i'd like to get as much hands on time with a stock rebuild before going to something crazy.

I have 2 sets of pistons, both of which are in mint shape, so i'll likely get them bead blasted and rerung if i cant find a set of forged ones.

I might get my rods shot peened, been debating it.. Either that or a set of Eagle rods or something.. Up in the air..

As for head work, going to keep the stock valves this season coupled to my new tomei valves/poncams. Next season i'll do valves and valve seats and bronze guides, as well as severe headwork to match the 23/24 route.

The car is going to be a work of art when it's done.. I'm really excited to have the project completed, 23/24 and all. Engine, footwork, and interior, completely rebuilt/new. Such an effin relief..

Any info on these inverted torx bolts holding the squirters in? Size etc?

    • Sounds good..

      Yea I'm in Florida.

The forged pistons if it's a hassle don't do it. You can also always just do an sr20det... Heh, I know you like the rb but sr has so much aftermarket support it's easier to build then most engines especially compared to an rb20. You can also pick up an rb25 for dirt cheap, you got options.

Btw I did sell my turbo setup.

      • Btw I don't know the tool but my buddy has it at his shop and he'd lend it to you no problem. I used it on my motor.

        • Nice thatd be epic!

Florida, how's the weather?? Jealous! Whatcha up to down there

Lol you know... As much as i appreciate the RB, if i were to go any direction, being RB25 or 26, i'd likely go SR. Though i know for affordability sake and even reliability in the higher #'s it's not the "BEST" idea. But man would it ever be cool.. Couple weight saving options.. couple; to an RB25 trans, would totally move the CFG back towards the mid section which i find the car needs on the track..

Really giving me things to look at..

I think i'll just bead blast my pistons, rering, have the block cleaned and honed, do some head work, have it tuned with my new turbo and run it at like 350whp for the summer, see how she lasts. Even that, at 1080kg, will be quite something.

SR20 eh... fml.. lol You know more about those than i do, you can guide me through the steps lol

          • Heh, sr's are amazing. I love rb's but sr is a hell of an engine for the price.

I was on a cruise last week now I'm just relaxing in south Florida.

Instead of an inline motor you can always go v8 for super cheap... Food for thought. Honestly though for re-ringing the pistons and the turbo you have you should make good reliable power. **** your car is soooo light I'm a bit jealous to be honest.

            • Cruise, ahhh no big deal. haha epic bud, good time?

Haha bring your car to my place in the spring. Tyler's is going to be there getting a makeover, going to be killing the lbs! You're more than welcome to store it there in the meantime as well. We can also fab you up a cage or crossbracing either inside or out, as i'll have a lift to work with then as well.

Ya V8 has been on my mind, but it just kills the experience of owning a single turbo, or even turbo'ed vehicle entirely. For a track or drift car, absolutely the most efficient way around the track cost and power wise, but ugh.. I donno if i could listen to that deep rumble over the sound of our inline.. That's a big step.. Like coming out of the closet - it will need to be done at the right time.

Yea the cruise was super nice, we got as far as central america which was super hot. Florida was hot today but has been cold the last few days.

Tyler is getting a makeover? You mean his car right? What are his plans?

I shoulda stored it at your place from the start, its in a garage right now 3 stories underground, all the oil feeds to the turbos are open, theres no exhaust manifolds. I have to get like 10 guys to push it up the inclines. If I start the car it'll start but it'll cause the biggest mess of all time. I can't even use a truck to tow it up cause the roof is too low and the corners are too sharp. Its gonna be a PITA.

Yea I don't know if I'd like the v8 rumble coming from my skyline, it be a bit to un-natural.

Did you buy the HSD coilovers for your car?

                • Nice man glad to hear.

Ya his car lol. We're gonna strip a sh*t ton of weight. i think the target for a GTR is 1380kg before anything crazy such as lexan windows etc.

Not much room at my place unfortunately.. Maybe next season! I'll have the 4 post car lift in by then so that will be handy for storing/working on cars, and there arent any steep inclines to push them around on lol. That's brutal.. So the plan is? Get the new turbo setup installed in there before pulling it out? Im assuming thats your only real option?

As for coilovers, no. I bought a set of practically brand new Megan Streets (height/damping adjustable) for my neighbour at work, ended up wanting them for myself lol. 550$ shipped, used for maybe 500 km.. They have 0 knicks etc.. I traced the manufacturer for HSD and driftworks suspension back to china, the same shop which manufactures the damping system for Megan, as well they utilize the same system, minus the fact they're 32 way vs 16 way adjustable.. Megan's HQ is also in the US, and their turn around time on replacement parts is rather quick, better than dealing with AUS/UK..
They're stiff, 10k / 8k, its going to be insane with my light car, but should be epic on the track with my stiffer rear swaybar to match.

I said these exact same words 100% to marc today as well.... his car and marc-andre's car have forced a new found appreciation for a GTS-T upon me... when they're light... they are VERY fast cars.

                    • Its their starting weight thats pretty amazing (even a 240sx is similar in weight to a gts-t, its our gtr's and their 4wd that add all the weight). We have to strip out a lot more to get it light. There's a lot of gtr's though around 1000kg in the UK with 4wd still on the car but there's nothing left in them. They are 1280kg from the factory, s13 is like 1200kg, r32 gtr is obese at 1490kg (or 1430kg depending the year).

                      • I'll let you know shortly how the r32 feels with the SR. I've had 2 rb20 gts's so I'm looking forward to the weight loss.

Also, could go 1j with r154, same-ish weight as rb25 or rwd 26. Not peanuts money like the 25 but far more reliable at higher power with little invested.

Awesome! would love to know how it works out. I think i've seen your build/mention on here somewhere of the SR swap? I'm assuming internally forged/cams and the works?

                          • well, I was intending on building one just like it and this turned up on the auction so I snagged it. All I know is that it has an s14 t28 and a stainless mani, lsd and a few other goodies(which I hope haven't been jacked. The auction report was pretty vague, but judging by the auction sheet it wasn't from the end user, so the dealership it came from probably had no idea what's in it. In any case, It's arrived and I'm gonna pick it up next friday.

If you are gonna do the sr, I'd go s14 sr though. If you need any pics of stuff on how things were done, I'd be happy to help so lmk.

                            • You would think a RX7 would out handle a Skyline due to being lighter in the front (does help when braking). But on racetrack, RB20DET powered R31 wins the race and finishes 1st, 2nd -

                              They replaced the FJ20DET in DR30 (4cyl) with RB20DET (6 cylinder) in R31 for a good reason.

At Skyline nationals, FJ20DET in DR30 isn't as quick as the R31 with RB20DET -

S15 with SR20DET (and VVT) runs similar laptimes to RB20DET in R31 (without VVT).

Its probably in the tuning or the setup, a sr20det produces more torque under the powerband then a rb20det does (relatively speaking), so its a better track motor since it has that low end punch for coming out of corners. Sr20det is a square motor, plus its alot lighter due to the fact that its aluminum and the rb20det is cast iron.
